Ladies... wash your hair!

I never understood how some women could wait 2+ weeks to wash their hair. I was on the train today and sat next to a woman with hair so rank... I could hardly believe it. I was lookin around and thinking.. "What in the world"???

If you're one of these people who can wait weeks to wash your hair please make sure it ain't funky.

Sheesh!!!

Just my 2 cents

a lot of people tend to go longer washing their hair due to the fact it doesn't smell, but there are a number of issues that happen on a daily basis that go on, that one needs to cleanse their scalp at least once a week. same thing with folks just washing their face with water. i have came across of a number of clients that do this and i see all kinds of yucky things under my mag lamp and wood's lamp. it doesn't have to be soap, but something with antiseptic properties that can remove debris and bacteria.

I wish I had time to find the perfect GIF to explain my facial expression when I noticed the FUNK.

Whew!! SBJ

Ughhh, I hate that. and I usually smell that on the trains. I think it's sooo disgusting. But most don't smell their hair. I really don't know what the big deal is to wash your hair. I know everyone is not as fanatical as the board, but geesh -- just wash that mess. I have a friend that only washes her hair only biweekly and have often times gone much longer if she doesn't get to go to the salon to do it. Her ish be full of dandruff and just weighed down but she doesn't care not one bit. Since she only goes to the salon and she doesn't want to dry her scalp out, she washes infrequently.

I used to only wash biweekly back when I went to a stylist for all of my haircare needs. She always told me there was no need to wash sooner. But after she went into another career field and I became a DIY I now wash weekly :)

I agree.

I don't think most people can actually smell their hair (the smelliest part is near the scalp), or have become used to the smell. No matter if your scalp is dry or not, sweat, pollution, chemicals in the air, musk from your body or the environment, food odors, product buildup etc will stick in your hair and make it smell moldy, musky etc, and other people can always smell it better since they're not around 24/7. Other people are VERY good at picking up smells from others.

If you want to know how your hair smells to others, rub your finger on your scalp for a few seconds b) rub fingers down hair shaft really well

Why would anyone want to wait until they (or worst - someone else) can SMELL their hair to decide if it needed to be washed or not.....

Hopefully, they would not take that same stance with their body! :(

UGHH! I hate this!! I smell alot of funktified hair on the train too. It pisses me off if the winds blows and somebody with funky hair is walking in front of me cause it goes all up in my nostrils cause there is no time for me to hold my breath hahaha

I just did a rollerset last night. I can't go more than 4-6 days TOPS if my hair is straight. Maybe she thinks dirt makes hair grow. :(

Yeah I use to watch Sister with Real Hair videos on youtube with amazement and a side eye as well. She was very adamant and proud of only washing her hair once a month with the amount of oil she used. I know women to this day that swear up and down that their hair doesn't smell even after long period of time of not washing it. I usually say to myself to each his own.

In many instances, I think it may just be a case of "when you know better, you do better". There have been times in my life when I avoided getting my hair wet like the plague because I wanted that press and curl to last as long as humanly possible. There have even been times when I washed my hair more frequently but probably had smelly hair due to daily flatironing. Fast forward to 2012 and I now know better so I do better. Unfortunately, we don't all progress at the same pace.

Another issue I didn't even think about until I saw it on a news story or something. They said that Pollen gets trapped in your hair and if you wear it in your face it will make your allergies even worse. But knowing all the kinds of things lurking around in the air I try to wash it as much as I can without it being dried out.

This is something I began to realize with extensions. When I would take my braids down I'd get the worst allergy symptoms. Pollen, dust, whatever else, all trapped in your hair. I shampoo no less than once a week now and rinse/cowash just about every day.

When I use my sulphur mix I am so fricken paranoid about my hair. I use it at night and try to wash it out a day later, and I need it a a bun so its not flying all over the place. I wash it as best as I can in braids. I can't stand people who don't worry about this stuff.

I can smell my own hair. I rub my fingers on my scalp and if it smells then I know it's stinking. I wash my hair weekly because I don't want to have a itching scalp.

There is a woman that I always talk to on our train journey to work. She often talks about her intense running sessions every morning.

I have known her for about a year and she always wears braid extensions, they always look neat, but these past couple of months her hair STINKS. It's almost vomit inducing. It's now to the point I hope I don't see her in the mornings.

Clearly she isn't washing her hair and is continuing to put some kind of product on her braids/scalp because the smell is just rancid.

I honestly don't know how her husband stands it.

If someones hair stinks I get the urge to wash my hair. Just like if someones breath smells I go brush my teeth again. I kinda feel bad that Im only paranoid about my hygiene when someone else smells.

Well, this is due to the fact that most believe that dirt grows their hair. Also, there are plenty of folks who believe keeping a style in for the month without washing/ rinsing is low manipulation and will help hair to grow. I can't go a week before washing especially if I work out.:nono:

Interesting. Guess I should jump off a bridge then. ppl are always asking me why I smell so good and what perfume (it's usually a combination as I dont like loud perfume...of oils and vanilla powder). I clean my scalp w sea breeze but don't see the need to wash all the time. It's too much hair and too many hours for all that.
