I have Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia or scarring alopecia; as a result I struggle with chronic scalp inflammation. So it's vital that I maintain a healthy scalp. I came across Marcella Herbal on Etsy and I like how knowledgeable she is about the topic of hair loss. So I decided to give her shampoo bar a try to see how my scalp and hair responds it.
There is no miracle product for alopecia, so healthy hair practices are my best arsenal; but the earlier you catch it the better it is to treat. I'm kind of in the middle phase so at this point prevention of worsening and preserving my hair is my main goal.

So far I have used it about 4 times. It has left my scalp feeling very calm and refreshed. It has excellent moisture and slip to cut through my strands and let me work a good massage in while washing.....BUT......as soon as you rinse this bad boy out, your strands will get squeakyyyyyy clean. So have your favorite moisturizing deep conditioner on deck and ready to work. Again, you will feel moisture while it's in your hair until you rinse it out.

Overall, I'm happy with the poo-bar and will continue to use it up. My objective is to have a clean scalp and keep the inflammation and sore scalp at bay. I'll keep you all posted with my experience.

I'm thinking about trying her other products for alopecia, If I do, I'll post my experience.

What does your scalp feel like or how does it look when inflamed? Are their any triggers?

My scalp feels like a porcupine is sitting on my head. It is very sore in some spots and overall tender to the touch.

I sure got my money worth...I am still using the bar. I love it so much. It isnt a miracle hair growth bar nor does it make that claim...But I really appreciate how it leaves my scalp clean and ready to receive whatever product I may choose to use. I do not experience the tender spots and soreness either. Overall, I will purchase from them again and use their bar to help me keep a clean and healthy scalp. It is very drying on the hair so a moisturizing DC is a must after use.

I used this on an off because some months I was in protective styles and could not use it. I plan to try it weekly or biweekly and see if I notice the hair growth factor but I think the clean scalp is what contributes to the hair growth that she claims the bars can promote.

6 Month Update: I am happy with my purchase. The bar calms my scalp and leaves it clean. It is very drying on the hair however, but I always DC so it doesn't matter. If I had longer hair, I would definitely section and braid my hair and focus just on the scalp only. That is the point of the bar, healthy scalp! I plan to try a different bar next time, not sure which one yet.

I'm still pleased with this shampoo bar. Next I plan to order the turmeric shampoo bar and one of the other alopecia bars.

You're welcome @felic1. I ended up ordering her Hair Growth shampoo bar instead. I will keep you all posted how it works for me. I credit this shampoo bar for reclaiming my scalp.

Just a reminder that you must follow with something moisturizing. She says that you don't but please don't believe that, lol.

    @Smiley79

Thanks for starting this thread and introducing us all to Marcella Herbal! Also, thank you for posting about her recent sale in the monthly sale thread or else I would have missed this

I love shampoo bars and I've never heard of this brand, but due to your testimonial and the many raves on Etsy I decided to give her shampoo bars a shot. I recently ordered 4 (Alopecia Anti-Inflammatory, Cinnamon Castor Super Grow, Blue Malva & Fresh Banana) and cannot wait to give them a try. While they are definitely more expensive than the typical price of shampoo bars, I was very intrigued by her extensive knowledge of herbal remedies for hair loss issues, so I decided to take the leap. I have Alopecia and other auto-immune diseases so this is right up my alley!

Thanks for the warning about the stripping effect these bars may have. Since I no longer use regular conditioner, I will try to counteract that with a natural "deep conditioner" or even use the Blue Malva & Fresh Banana bars as conditioning 2nd washes after using either of the "growth" bars since they are touted as being more moisturizing.

Question: Do you lather up & allow it to sit on your scalp for a bit before rinsing or is that even necessary to get the benefits from the herbs?

Wow that's great to hear that you're going to try them. I am new to shampoo bars so I don't have much to compare to; it will be nice to get another person's experience with her bars. The best benefit that I experienced with her bars is how it calmed and almost reset my scalp. Initially I had inflammation of the scalp due to the alopecia...it was painful and tender to the touch but this poo bar really helped with that issue.
I do find the bar to be stripping so I always use conditioner afterwards. I laugh she says that you don't have to because I'm like who can get away with that?

Unfortunately, I am always in a hurry when I shampoo, so I typically don' lather and leave it on, although I should just to get all the benefits of the bar. I do however massage my shampoo in so I still give my scalp a little treat. With the new bar that I bought, the cinnamon one, I plan to leave it on after lathering just to let it work on my scalp.

I am so glad you got the Blue Malva...im so curious about that one. It sounds really good. I want to try that one and the saw Palmetto one next. I'm surprised she doesn' have a peppermint one; that would be so good.

And yes i was impressed at her knowledge. I love reading her descriptions and explanations of the products and the benefits depending on the scalp condition.
Good or bad, let me know how you the bars work for you. They last forever so it might take you a while, lol. From now on I'm cutting my bars in half.

Thanks! I will definitely update with my thoughts on these bars ... it might take a while though because I don't use shampoo bars too often since I only use them to clarify, which does not happen too often ... but if they don't strip my sebum too much, I might be able to use them more often, which would be nice and help me to see how effective those 2 "growth" bars are especially.

I have found shampoo bars to be my favorite method for cleansing over the years because they are so convenient, travel-friendly, effective, long-lasting (if you make sure they dry properly after each use & cut larger bars into smaller bars to avoid premature shrinking), and they add great slip & moisture (depending on the ingredients of course, since the natural saponification process creates a glycerin by-product which is deposited onto the hair along with the other ingredients)!

I am also fond of natural clay washes too, but they are more time consuming, messy, harder to rinse out, and overall inconvenient for regular use in my opinion ... with shampoo bars I can just jump in the shower, lather up, rinse and be done with it LOL.

I look forward to your review of the Cinnamon Castor one too and see how you think it compares to the Alopecia Anti-Inflammatory one :yep:
