I thought this was an interesting read gives the cautions and easy ways to make your own shampoo. Enjoy!

Organic Shampoo
Did you ever wonder what some of the ingredients in your shampoo were? Formaldehyde, a human carcinogen that can cause skin, eye and respiratory irritation can be present in the preservatives DMDM hydantoin, diazolidinyl urea, imidazolidinyl urea, quaternium-15 and Bronopol, ingredients that can be found in conventional shampoos. Polyethylene, PEG compounds which contain polyethylene glycol and polysorbates may become contaminated with 1,4 dioxane which is anticipated to be a human carcinogen and has caused liver cancer in rodents. These are just two of the chemicals that can be found in conventional shampoos. Our bodies absorb what is put on our skin as we age this can lead to the development of sensitive skin. These toxins can also lodge directly in our fat cells because they are applied to the skin and scalp thus bypassing the liver. Organic shampoo is supposed to made with natural and organic ingredients. It is important to note that not all organic shampoos are one hundred percent organic so it is important to read the labels and know what you are buying. When choosing an organic shampoo look for one with no petroleum-based colors or oils. The other option you have is to make your own organic shampoo. If you grow the ingredients yourself you know what has been put on them. If not, look for organic ingredients. Homemade products do not have the shelf life that store bought products do, however you can learn to make just the amount you need. To make homemade shampoo you will need seven ounces of filtered water, one ounce of liquid castile soap or make your own from soap nuts or soapwort and six tablespoons of herbs. You can choose various herbs here but try to choose ones for your hair type. For example, use rosemary for dark hair or try chamomile for light hair. Simmer the herbs in water for ten minutes, strain and then mix the ingredients together and you have a natural, organic homemade shampoo.

i made some and started using it this week. I liked the way it tingled my scalp  I just miss the slip that my commercial shampoo gave me.

I know of about four people that have either died or gotten cancer within the last six months.

I believe the harmful things that we put into our body and on our skin can cause all kinds of cancers and serious illnesses.

I've been more diligent in taking the stand that me and my family (don't have a husband or kids yet) will not be subject to cancer and other unnecessary illnesses.

With that said, I've made an effort to use natural deodorants, shampoos, eliminate some foods in my diet, cut out the microwave so much, etc.

I'm at a slow start, but slow is better than none at all.

It looks like I will definetly be switching because I noticed my sensitivity (skin) has become more sensitive. I already have allergies and since moving they have become severe.

I add oil some oil to my shampoos when I need more slip! It leaves your hair feeling pretty nice too.

I had a relative who died from stomach cancer some years back. Since then I have been trying to make a concious effort to be more aware and use more natural products. I'm still slowly starting too. But I think cutting out certain things like you have been doing is an excellent start.:yep:

I'm texlaxed so I still have these chemicals in my life. My goal is only to decrease my exposure to them. Qhemet has some pretty decent products and I know there's been a couple of threads on it. They're not 100% organic but for me they're close enough.

The castille soap mixtures can give you a really good shampoo it just involves you mixing ingredients and adding essential oils to your liking.

I've also used the Aveda damage remedy line (Restructuring Shampoo and Intensive Restructuring Treatment).

I believe Aubrey Organics line is pretty popular here too. Good luck!

You are so right didirose. I agree 100% that those ingredients in the shampoos and other products as well are not fit for the scalp, let alone the whole body. That's why I changed my hair products over to either Organic or homemade natural stuff. Anything I buy has to be close to natural or 100%. I'm even changing my diet regimen, slowly but surely. Good looking out. By the way, Aubrey is great when it comes to shampooing my hair! Oh yeahhh!
