VITAMINS HELPFUL OR NOT?????

I believe someone else posted something similiar to this in the past. I have decided to reduce my vitamins. I have been taking 2 Ultra NourisHair this entire year and last year and have noticed ABSOLUTELY no change in my hair. I believe I get all the nutrients necessary from my diet. I will cut down to 1 vitamin a day. My hair grew a lot last year without the aid of vitamins.

What are your experiences?

I just started this vitamin craze so I can't really say much. I started taking GNC late March with flaxseed oil. I added Aminohair pills a week ago. I will wait until end of june to see if anything significant has occured.
My hair is colored so I can see the difference in new growth.

I get more growth per month when I take One-a-Days for a few days at a time. I honestly don't like taking vitamins everyday of every single month, not to sound stupid, but I don't want my body to grow used to them, if you know what I mean. I take them for periods at a time, and then I stop, and then, I resume, etc. My hair definitely grows more with their aid. I can get about 1/2" or maybe a little bit more per month, with the help of taking vitamins some days of that month. If I don't, my hair growth is more sluggish.

Trial Shows Sulfur Compound Improves Hair and Nail Growth

A recent, double-blind, placebo-controlled, pilot trial, performed by Ronald M. Lawrence, M.D., Ph.D., showed that 100% of the subjects on MSM (methyl-sulfonyl-methane), a nutritional supplement that provides biologically active sulfur, showed increased hair growth compared to the group on placebo. Only one subject on placebo showed an increase in hair length. In addition, 30% of the subjects on MSM showed improvement in hair brilliance, while none of the subjects on placebo showed such an improvement.

A second double-blind, placebo-controlled, pilot trial, conducted simultaneously, showed that 50% of the subjects on MSM showed increased nail length and nail thickness growth compared to the group on placebo. Approximately 10% of those on placebo showed increased nail length growth. None of the subjects on placebo showed an increase in nail thickness.

Cathleen London, M.D., a Boston-based family practitioner, said “I have been prescribing MSM for my patients experiencing pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia, and they kept saying how great their hair and nails looked. It’s good to see an efficacy study confirm that there are benefits in this area.”

Lignisul™, an ultrapure, all-natural form of MSM was used in both studies.

Based on the results of the trials, Dr. Lawrence concluded: “oral supplementation with Lignisul MSM is a valuable addition to hair and nail growth. Hair and nail health was significantly improved in a short term of six weeks. If the trials were continued for eight to sixteen weeks, the results would have been even better for those on MSM.”

The hair trial involved a total of 21 patients — 5 women and 16 men. Data was collected by certified cosmetologists under the direction of Dr. Lawrence. The trial parameters included hair length, brilliance, and diameter of the individual hair shafts using industry standard measurement scales.

The nail trial involved a total of 11 subjects — 10 women and 1 man. Again, data was collected by certified cosmetologists. Trial parameters included nail length, thickness, luster and general appearance using industry standard measurement scales.

“All subjects supplemented with MSM were duly impressed with the changes in the health and appearance of their hair,” said Dr. Lawrence. “The cosmetologists literally could differentiate which participants were on MSM by the appearance of the hair, alone, after six weeks.”

Carolwood Corporation, Greenville, PA, is a supplier of high-quality supplements, including Lignisul MSM (methyl-sulfonyl-methane), Alavis MSM (a fine feed grade for animals), and Entrox, a multi-essential fatty acid. For more information, log on to www.msm.com, or call 888-646-0350.

Since I got back on my vitamin & mineral and MSM intake again, the new growth is a lot more healthier and softer to the touch. I do believe that the MSM attributed to a mjaor part of that. When it's just a regular multi no I don't notice any difference. I much prefer and notice a difference also when I incorporate oil capsules to my regimen.

NayNay, I also took Ultra Nourishair for a long time and noticed absolutely nothing in terms of growth. But my new growth was easier to manage and softer, probably because of the MSM. I've been taking PP Biotin since the end of March, and I think it's pretty good.

Hey Girly,

GNC Ultra NourisHair did nothing for me too. I just take a good multi, PP B-Complex and Biotin (tried the MSM and had unfavorable results) and my hair is growing more in a few months with that mixture than the NourisHair did in the whole year.

I have noticed an increase in growth with vitamins. Mainly when I started taking Biotin, MSM and Inositol.

Now that I think about it the Ultra Nourishair doesn't seem to be doing much of anything (except make me regular
).

Maybe I'll stop taking them and see. I wouldn't mind NOT taking those big ol things.

I've heard a lot about this GNC not doing anything. My classmate who recommend Aminohair said the same thing. I don't know. I have about half a bottle left and I don't want my money to go to waste so I guess I'll just keep taking it.

It is making my nails grow faster than the speed of light.
