Okay here's my problem...Everytime I practice braids and kinky twist by adding extension hair on myself I cannot get them taut at the root(I think that the other word for tight or not loose). What gives? I add extension braid hair with no problem on other people heads but on my own that's another darn story...Help Please I do not want to go to a braid shop and pay 120+ for something I know I can do myself.:wallbash:

That's strange. All I can guess is to keep practicing. I just recently braided my own hair for the first time but I've never done somebody elses.

Don't be afraid to put a little pressure on you hair. Trust me you won't hurt yourself, not even close to what the braiding galleries do.

THis is a little hard to explain but after i have the hair in place after a few of the first rotations/crossing of the hair (you know, the actual twisting or braiding motions) I then hold on to my hair (which has not been blended into the fake hair yet) and scoot the braid/twist toward the scalp.:look: Then I continue braiding/twisting from my new position and then blend the hairs together. KWIM? HTH

Thank you, bmoreflyygirl and kittenz. I'll practice some more when I get home and try your suggestion as well kittenz. I'm afraid to pull because I think I'm braiding it too tight. I'll try again this evening. THANKSSSSSSSS YOUR TWO ARE GREAT!!!

Your welcome! Please don't pull you hair too tight but a little pull is necessary. After you attach the hair it should not hurt if you move it nor should it pull on your scalp at all. If it hurts (when your finished) it's too tight, although actually attaching it my be uncomfortable at most- if your tended headed- the finished product should not hurt and should move free of pain. HTH!

I have this same problem. How are you all getting your parts straight in the back too?

I have no suggestion on this one. Whenever I braid or twist my hair it's full no one ever sees the parts in the back. This let's me be real creative with my parts back there:rolleyes:.

I've been using two mirror to make sure that my back parts are straight. The use the regular wall bathroom mirror and then there is medicine cabinet/mirror on the other side that allow me to see the part from different angles. Try using the comb that has the skinny pick(I guess it would be considered a rat tail comb) when parting then I just pull the remaining hair down with my hands.

You want to grab your hair tightly, and then began twisting the extenstion hair right under or over your own hair. Don't let your own hair lose just because you start twisting, still hold it up and out tightly and keep braiding. And you want to make sure the knot or where the two pieces of extension hair are connected is where you put right between your own hair at the root.
