How much do you tip your hairdresser?

Here's a good one. I've always tipped my hairdresser well , that is until she messed up my hair. Guess she will miss that extra $$. But on average what do you tip your hairdresser ? and what do you base it on?

Most of the time 20-25% percent depending on how happy I am. If it's average work or if the stylist is not nice or friendly 15%.

Between $5-10 dollars. I got my relaxer today and didnt wanna leave ish, because I didnt get a deep condition, and she didnt even base my scalp. *sigh* Guess Ill have to check out Southergirl's tips for self-relaxing because Im sick of this crap.

I usually tipped 20%, which is pretty much my standard tipping rate. However, since my stylist has been arriving late and overprocessed my relaxer last touch-up, she will get nothin'. Not even my business! I'm going to start doing my own hair from now on. Much cheaper.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only $5 tipper. My stylist went up $5 on her relaxers though. So, I said she was going to miss out on that tip, because I can't dish out $65. But, I decided to transition.:look:

Usually nothing :perplexed or $5. Although I love my stylist, I'm a college student and I barely can scrape up money for my relaxer!

I'm a $5.00 tipper too. If, she does a few extra things like my eyesbrows I Try to add a few extra bucks.

When I was going to the salon, I tipped the stylist 20% which was always $20+. I also gave the shampoo lady $2-$5. I did this because I thought it was the right thing to do, and I was hoping to get good/better service. Never happened...

I go to a Dominican salon. It costs $15 total for a wash/set. There are usually 2 or 3 girls who work on my hair. One washes me, the other roller sets and then finishes me off once Im dry... sometimes 3 if a third girl unrolls me and blows out my roots instead.

I usually tip $6 total. When there are 3 ppl, each girl gets $2 for the service that they performed on me. If only 2 ppl who worked on me, $3 each. Hey, i know this isnt a lot..... but i think this is what most folks who go to the Dominicans tip, since the work is being shared amongst them.

Wow Kini, I feel like Scrooge now....so you basically tip 40% on a cost of $15.00..
I thought I was doing okay with the 3 bucks on the 15.00 wash & set(20%):(
*Does it count that I give gifts from Godiva during the holidays? :look:

It depends on what she is doing... A regular touch up and the style looks good $5.00 but usually nothing. If I am getting something special done like for the military ball $10.00.

we're supposed to tip?:look: Maybe that's why she moved to california:lol:
 Yes, tips are very much appreciated, especially for stylists on commission.

If you're unhappy with the service, you should let your stylist know instead of just skimping on the tip without saying a word. This way, at least you gave the stylist a chance to make it right.

I typically do the same thing. If the job is exceptional and I have a little extra cash, I'll give more.

I'm on the east coast and I don't tip stylist either. It's not like they are waiters who's main income are based on tips.

I usually tip between 20-25%. Thinking about it, I don't know who told me I was at baller status to be doing that...but hey, I feel like I'm sowing into something good. If she did a good job, she deserves to be tipped well. I'd hate for someone to not tip me with jobs like that where I assume they don't get 100% of the "services performed" fee.
