Plus Sized Ladies Don't Look Right With Long Hair

This "wisdom" is from my friend's hairdresser. My friend got a recent trim and I told her that she got a lot cut off. She told me that she doesn't mind because she feels she's too old(in her 50's) to have long hair.
She added that her hairdresser told her that fat women don't look right with long hair, if she loses weight then she won't cut off so much.
I thought I heard it all, but this stupidity takes the cake.:nono:

That's a crock of :censored:. That makes absolutely no sense. I can see if a certain style doesn't flatter someone with a full face, but to say that the person can't have long hair period is stupid.:perplexed

I can't believe the hairdresser said that. I wonder how long her hair was hmmm. Because it sounds like she was hating.

Why are y'all acting brand new?

There's PLENTY of "fashion" tips that talk about the kinds of hairstyles, hairglasses, that are "better" for or "shape out" a face, depending on the shape of the face, e.g., long, round, oval, diamond, heart, etc. That may be what the hairdresser was referring to....

I have heard that before.

I also think short hair looks better on some people than long hair.

Ive thought about this before to, but in my opinion ive always thought it makes bigger people look smaller than their size when they have short hair, because it steals all the attention or something?? I dont know, but who cares big og small fat or skinny, whatever hair you want shouldnt be anyones business or decision :nono:

Now I've heard that rounder faces go better with shorter hair...but you can be skinny with a round face or heavier with a slim face.

Her comment was totally uncalled for.:nono:

Yeah but I'm careful of this comment too because most Black people of African descent has round or oval shaped faces.

And alot of us have short hair as well. Could this be a reasoning why they feel that their short hair will fit them better? Even though some may want longer hair?

IMO, Her stylist was just trying to make her feel bad, because she knew she had messed up.

I understand if she said it, because of her face type. Some face types don't look good with long hair, but what she said was just rude and unwarranted.

It does sound pretty ignorant. But we are hearing it 3rd hand and maybe her words have been taken out of context. Jose E'bar, a famous Beverly Hills hair stylist to the stars, was a doing a makeover on women. When he got to the fat overweight woman, he suggested that she have her poofy mid back length hair cut to shoulder length and let him add some angular layers. He said that most fat women have overly round chubby faces due to the added weight. And that having long, big hair just makes one look bulkier and bigger. So maybe your friends hair stylist meant it in that sense.

As a woman who is round, brown, and low to the ground I prefer longer hair... but short close cropped cuts look good on me too :)

That's odd, most of the people I see with pretty, long hair are plus-sized.
Exactly what I was going to say. Most of the prettiest, longest hair (with lovely skin) i've ever seen has been on a plus sized woman. :lick: I don't remember thinking any of them looked bad or anything.

I was at the mall yesterday and noticed that i saw no older women of any race with long hair. They all had SL and shorter hair, and they were all looked like rollersets. I think i can see how longer hair on a older women can age you, but im still going to have mine:blush:

I hate when something is stated as a rule, and thats the only reason people make decisions.

But it seems like it could make sence for some people

If you were like plus sized with very full cheeks, and a very round/oval shaped face, then long flat hair seems like it wouldnt do anything for you, like it would make you look bigger because it would be flat on your head and accentate/overdo your cheecks and all that. Long hair worn down with alot of body with a center part, like some like Beyonce type hair might drape your face, and also make you look bigger. So it would seem like hair that doesnt touch your body (shoulder and shorter), with a nice cut style to frame your face (instead of hang around it ) would look better.

Then on the other side if you were very skinny, with a square or heartshaped very thin face, then short styles might overpower your frame. A very thick bob cut or halle berry type style might make your head look too much bigger than your body----So it seems like long styles would look better.

Exactly! Big, long hair can help balance out the bodies portions including the face.

Well put. I am a plus sized woman and I've had shoulder length and longer hair nearly my entire life. In fact I receive the most compliments when my hair is down, swangin' and bouncin' with body.

Put that hair dresser on "ignore" :)
Not too long ago in history, all women had long hair.
Healthy, growing hair is a plus for everyone IMO! :yep:
