how did you wear your hair while growing it out and how did you manage it?
Braids/twist
Cornrows
Wigs
Sew in's
Natural hair (Bun's, ponytails, and so on)

half wigs for me. it's just so easy. i leave only the front part out and twist the rest of my hair.

i love my half wig so much that i may not want to wear my own hair once it grows out.

A couple of years ago when I was trying to grow my hair out micros and kinky twists were all that I wore and my hair grew alot. The last set of micros were hell on my hair though. I could here my hair snap crackle and pop as she braided it :nono: When I told her she told me not to worry etc...Needless to say when I took them out my hairline was looking more pushed back than Sinceere from Flavor of Love 3:lachen:So I have to put the braids on hold for a bit and just try different protective styles. Lately I've been doing a pinned up twist out that looks half way decent.

When I went from chin length to APL, I wore a bun on the top of my head most every single day for about a year. I usually covered the bun with one of the many hairpieces I own. Now that it's longer, I have aboandoned the hairpieces and buns and wear my natural hair.

I wore box braids for almost 2 years and that really grew my hair out. I was ear length and in two years made it to shoulder by wearing those braids. I never had hair longer than ear legnth before that.

LOL Cling-on..i usually wouldnt say anything but she's evil so..

I have been alternating between wig/half-wigs and sew-ins.

I've been wearing sew-in's for 6 months and then giving my hair a rest by wearing the wigs and falls. So far so good. :yep:

how do these half wigs work? do they clip on or something..i never heard of them until i got on here

I voted "Other." I used spiral sets to grow my hair from about shoulder length to its current length, brastrap. This low manipulation style allowed me to workout/sweat regularly and still look decent for about 7 days, until washday. Before my evening workouts, I would just pincurl and cover with a bonnet. In the morning, I would remove the pincurls, shake and go.

Now, I mostly wear my hair in updos on weekdays, and down in a twistout or rollerset on the weekend.

I use braids often and weave sometimes. But this year I plan to do rollersetting/curlformers style often this year with out hiding my hair (not making any promises).

Braids I do myself  I love long braids. (Kenakolan Hair)

Half wigs are great for when you don't want to really look like you have a wig on. The wig starts about an inch or so beyond a natural hair line and it has combs that you attach to your head. Then you simply blend your hair with the wig and viola :drunk: They're cheaper than paying a stylist for a weave and they come in so many styles so you can always switch it up.

I would moisturize and then bun my hair up and then just leave it alone until the next wash. It was hard to do this for a few months but by doing this and giving my hair a break it grew in thick and healthy. I contribute my hair growth and retention to this method. I have to say I am very happy and satisfied with my hair right now...even if it doesn't grow another inch...although longer bangs would be nice!

Lately I have been co washing and putting my hair up in a wet slicked back pony. I have enough hair to make a decent bun but I just prefer to leave my ponytail out.Sometimes I wear a phony bun with a deep side part or off to the side when I'm tryin to look cute.I wish I had the patience to do a nice roller set or twist out but those styles don't last long for me and a pony is fool proff. Box braids of any kind are my favorite grow out styles I wear them often.

Braids and twists baby! I didn't have a clue on how to take care of my natural hair so I kept it twisted or braided. Now I wear a protective donut bun as I continue this growth journey. I will be back in twists by summer though. Can't wait!

mine were first braids until i had enough to do ten cornrows with extensions and keep them religiously. to manage the hair, i would keep it in baggy, crown and glory and add minoval, huil masketi, mtg, grease you name it-to it, that s when i experienced the most growth. I could not keep cornrows for more than 2 weeks, because of growth.

as it grew, twists and little braids and eventually sew ins

I haven't posted recent pics in a while, but I will once I remove this soew in in April, but my hair is definetly SL, and is well on it's way to ApL, I cna't wait until next month to see my progress. I was trying to do protective styling, wiht my hair, but I was getting bored and too impatient, so the sew in worked out perfectly for me. I found this stylist who actually listens to me, understands my long term hair goals, and put my hair in a way were I can still take of my natuaral hair. I will post progress pics next month!!

BRAIDS AND MORE BRAIDS:lachen:I WASH ONCE A WEEK DEEP CON EVERY WEEK MOIS 2X DAY USE PROTIEN TREATMENT WHEN NEED TO I ALSO USE CPR USE CLAUDIE HAIR ELIXIR TAKE VIT AND MY HAIR IS GROWING GREAT:yep:I BEEN IN BRAIDS ALMOST A YEAR NOW

Um, in 7th grade, my mom and I believed my hair was to the point of no return [probably was] so we did a BC, and I wore braids [box braids] for a year. Then in 8th grade, got it relaxed and cut into a fly little style. I kept it out and cut for most of 9th grade. Now I'm in 10th and growing it out. I did a little HYH Challenge the first semester, with weavebuns, sew ins and box braids. [see fotki] Now I just wear my own hair.

I plan to wear braids or twist for the entire summer; June-August and then I will take them out for my two year anniversary. Hopefully I will have gained two inches by the end of August from now.

im bunning for now. I also use curlformers and bantu knots every now and then.

I need more transitional styles without styles that'll hide my hair
