Hey Ladies! Today I met up with one of my coworkers to participate in a ZUMBA class at the gym. Well of course the class was great! That instructor definitely knew how to do the dutty whine to that dancehall and reggaeton! Lol!:lachen: Anyways, I saw another coworker from my job and she came out of the class sweating so hard, I mean it looked like she just had a bucket of water poured all over her! When I said to her,"Girl you know your gonna have to wash that hair!" She said, "What!? I am not washing this hair! I'm gonna have to get some paper towels to dry it up." Her hair was in a french-roll, but now its drenched in sweat. There was sweat dripping from the ends of her hair from the nape and sides! I was shocked (in my head) to that response. So ladies, what do you think? Would you Cowash or wash your hair with shampoo? Is sweat okay to leave in the hair until wash day with shampoo, especially if your hair looks like someone threw a bucket of water on it?

lol she might have funk trapped inside that twist. i thought i read that the salt in sweat isnt good to leave in your hair for a long time. or something like that;

If I was sweating like that there's no way I could go without some type of water hitting my hair my hair immediately afterwards. No Way.

I don't know if it's o.k or not as far as hair care goes.
I have to rinse the sweat from my hair though.
I cowash just about everyday because of this.

not to highjack the thread, but is there some medical/hair health reason why waiting a full week before washing hair is bad if you exercise daily????

I sweat, but geez...its just sweat.....

Hey Tailormade, girl thats okay. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.:hug2: I just wanted to get everyone's insight.

I cowash every other workout day. It is usually the day of cardio where I sweat hard. For regular weight training or abs and squats- my hair is good to go!!!

I may get sweaty around my hairline but not enough to cowash or wash my entire head.

I think it should at least be rinsed after that, for the same reason we rinse after getting out of the ocean: salt. And a lot of people would rather just co-wash for moisture's sake than just rinse.
A little sweat I could let slide for a while, but if it was as much as you said coco, I wouldn't want to let that dry in my hair.

Nothing worng with it, if it works for you.
Some other ladies here don't wash after every workout as well.
I have to though, I can't go without rinsing at least.

salt is awful for the hair. the gym has been great for my hair. i rinse with warm water, slap on conditioner and go in the steam room for 10 min. then i rinse with cold water. i put my hair in a ponytail, when i get home i add some shea butter to the ends, it is awesome!

IMO, sweat......from what I have been told is not good for the scalp, and with me, I have to atleast co-wash after every work out or my hair will smell, now I can go two or three days after I work out, but after that, that's it, I have to wash.....Now some shampoos don't have sulfates in it, and is gentle for everyday use, I wouldn't shampoo everyday with a shampoo that has sulfates in it.....but I would def co-wash everyday and then shampoo atleast once a week.......

Well cowash is good but sometimes I feel my hair needs a break since I cowash everyday. And on my hair break days If I sweat a little from the gym then that's no problem I can wait till next workout to cowash.

I can't tell if I will cowash if I sweat a lot coz my body doesn't really sweat that much lol.

if i was sweating heavily like that, i'd have to suck it up and cowash and rock a bun. i don't like for my scalp to feel nasty, and i don't want my hair to be funky.

Admittedly, her hair is probably stinky...gross, but sweat isn't like dumping a can of salt on the hair. Salt can be drying to the hair, but all that depends on how much salt is in her sweat, etc. After a certain point, sweating is just pure water because the body can't afford to release all electrolytes in the body, as they are used for important bodily functions like fluid balance. If she's sweating as much as you say, she is definitely sweating some pure water. At any rate, I work out every day and I don't wash my hair everyday, but I put my hair up pretty high and wear a sweat band. If I had wet, drippy hair though....ummm...that's kind of gross. I would at least rinse. She should invest in a Nike bandana made from quick-dri material that will absorb the sweat.

Girrrl, that wrap in your Piki is BANGING. Oh my gawd. I always wished I knew how to wear wraps classy like that. Beautiful!

Guys, prior to my HJ, I used to sweat like that and let the hair dry with sweat and wash it every two weeks. Not knowing that I was drying out my hair and causing breakage. So, I wouldn't even judge her because she doesn't know better. I was scared that I would dry out my hair from constant washing(I had asked at least 2 hairdressers what to do about sweat and they didn't ever tell me to wash more often at all).

Well I would like to wash after every workout but truthfully I am to lazy. I don't like washing that often. It is tedious because I workout 3-4 days a week.

I would never do that. If we have too hot of a day I have to wash my hair before, bed or work. I have to feel clean, and soaked, wet, hot, hair would never fly with me. To each his reach I suppose.

Some of the responses here are cracking me up! I can tell you now, that my hair doesn't smell like arse... :lachen:

It's so funny I read this today because a friend of mine was talking to me at the gym after my workout this morning and said I smelt really nice, I was a bit confused because I was very sweaty! How could I smell nice??? He leaned towards me and said it's my hair, lollll. My sweaty hair smells nice??? :lachen: I guess my moisturising spritz is the reason - water, evoo, hh totally twisted (smells yummy) and glycerin.

I workout 5 mornings a week... currently I only cowash 3 days a week... I sweat so much that my hair is dripping but I don't cowash my hair in the mornings - after my workout, I let my hair down from a ponytail, put on my showercap, take a shower, then spray hair with my moisturising spritz, slap on my headband and leave down to airdry, I seal in the moisture with my shea-aloe moisturising mix. I pin up my hair after it dries completely. The 3 days i cowash, I do so in the evenings. I don't want to rinse out my hair 5 mornings a week and also have to DC 2 other days during the week at home.

My hair's not hating me so far, I plan to increase my cowash days to 5 over the summer but only 3 of these cowashes can be in the a.m after my workout. The other 2 have to be at home so I can DC in the comfort of my home.

YUCK! Get in the shower and at least rinse that hair girl!! I excerise 3- 4 days a week and I cowash after each session. Both my scalp and hair are clean afterward. I can't imagine leaving sweat to cake up on my scalp and hair like that..my hair would smell like fish until next wash:nono:

Oiudad just made a post to her blog and said that sweat in your hair is fine. She siad just refresh it with maybe a spray leave in conditioner.
