Spinoff: LHCF Was Wrong When They Said...

SteelyDan/DonaldFagenFan!
Someone said Hello Hydration gave incredible slip. I spent my little $2 and almost ended up cutting off my hair. I mean what type of conditioner causes the hair to feel hard while it's still wet and then when I reported back that I didn't like it and had tangles and what not...I think I was told that I applied it wrong.

OMG, Hello Hydration's a hot flaming mess! Used it once years ago and never used it again. Hard hair GALORE! :nono:

That the key to a great flat iron for naturals is a good moisturizing DC. Um, no. It does not make an ounce of difference. My cottonball fluff will not be moved.

I must be the only person that likes Shea Moisture. Please PM me and I will send you my address so you can send me your products LOL

ETA: The BKT threads were plentiful about a year ago. I am sorry for all of the ladies that experienced set backs doing this. I was warned not to BKT and once in a while I'm tempted, then read about the set backs and I say nuh uh let me just deal with the shrinkage.

Yea I always had the thought in the back of my head that eventually all the BKT usage people were doing wasn't going to end well. It seems like some of the posters that were so gung ho about it just disappeared:look:

InBloom

In my new-growth
"Lies LCHF Told Me."

Henna.

This red dye from the devil straightend my 4a hair so much it looked like an underprocessed relaxer and murdered any curl definition. And it took years for that mess to grow out. And it dried the heck out my hair, too.

I almost considered BCing to get my curls back.

Denman? Lies.
Tangle Teezer? Mo lies.
Hairveda Sitranillah Conditioner. Ya'll STAY lyin' bout this citrusy mess.
"You don't need protein/just moisturizing products only?" Lies from the beast with 7 horns. My hair is SUPER fine and needs a regular dose of skrong protein to ack right.
Co-washing daily? Only if I want to be bald. My fine hair can't take all that manipulation.
It's appropriate to spend $60 on Ovation? Unless you're paying for it, no, it's not.
Bunning to waist-length? Tell that to my snatched edges...

Naw, homie. I learned today. Everything don't work for everybody. I stick with what works for ME.

I treat everything else as advice and not Gospel...

I can hear your tone...had me giggling all the way through this post. Thank you for that.

- EVOO and Shea butter I hate both of them in my hair!
- heat is bad and should be avoided; I use heat occasionally and it definitely has helped me keep my tangles under control
- cones, sulfates and mineral oil are bad; I have products that have these ingredients and they're holy grail products that have helped my hair thrive and I don't plan on ever letting them go!

It was my understanding that mineral oil isn't bad for your hair it is full of chemicals due to the way it was processed and we didn't want to absorb the chemicals into our bloodstream. This is the same reason I avoid parabens.

Silicones are fine if you use a sulfate shampoo to remove it but since do many of us are low poo to no poo we can get silicone buildup. The build up on some people's hair caused their hair to become resistant to absorbing moisture. Thus resulting in breakage.

I think cones are fine if they are periodically removed.

I am not a cone user but will use it in family members hair. I do make sure to remove the cones.

I can't see any mentions on my IPhone. PM me if it is a must see. Allons y
The molecules of mineral oil are too big to penetrate the skin that's why it "just sits on the skin"

Shea Moisture mask(yellow) left my hair hard and dry.
lhcf was wrong when they said baking soda and acv would clean my hair and leave it soft.my hair and skin was EXTREMELY dry and had major breakage.
lhcf swearing Cantu leave In is the bomb. Doesn't do anything for my hair.

Lhcf was wrong about avoiding proteins ,my hair thrives on proteins (and butters)
Glycerin SUCKS! the wonderful Kbb sweet ambrosia would be amazing without glycerin,
Hair spritzes with glycerin make my hair dryyyy

.....the LOC method was a must for naturals. Ugh, no. For me, the LCO method works better for my hair.
.....to not use products with cones, mineral oil, glycerin etc and to not use hair grease. Honestly it's not a deal breaker for my hair. I was obsessed with ingredients for the first few years of my natural hair journey and unfortunately it was a waste of time. Now I'm less restrictive when it comes to product choices and I simply pay attention to what my hair responds positively to rather than rule out everything with the word "cone" or "mineral oil". Best decision I ever made.

They lied big time with that moisture drenched pre-poo foolishness. All of that AVJ and EVCO turned my hair into a crispy, dry mess of nastiness.

Does your hair have the same reaction to glycerin?

I've found that I have to ignore all the recommendations to use glycerin products because it gives me hard, dry hair while AVJ or gel works well for me.

Personally I think it's an either or situation. AVJ usually works unless your hair responds better to glycerin.

No, not at all. I can tolerate AVJ, EVCO and glycerin well when they're contained within a product's ingredient list, but not as a stand alone, e.g., spritzing my hair with water and AVJ or glycerin, using AVG as a styler, sealing or pre-pooing with EVCO, etc.

For me, overnight DCs, baggie method and greenhouse effect just make my hair feel really mushy. I was glad to see that Komaza hair analysis state for a number of folks that it worked against their progress.

The other lie, in general, were bandwagon products or methods. They usually started with huge, unverified claims of greatness followed by 20+ pages of complaints.

That all "natural" products are better for your hair

I used a natural cleanser for my hair tore it up more than any sulphate shampoo did
Stripped it so bad it took a piece of my soul with it too :-/
I definitely agree with this entire post:lol:. I Love my suds. I love my cones even more. Now natural butters and oils have their place in my hair's heart!

Some of the best shampoos I've used in recent years were sulfate shampoos. Most of them were salon brand so that probably made a difference. I've tried sulfate free shampoos over the years - some were great, most were OK and a few really dried my hair out something terrible. My hair felt damaged after one wash. :hair:

Detangling with sopping wet hair is best. It tears my hair up. I've been retaining length like never before since I started detangling with-get this...A spray bottle full of CONES on dry hair.

That I needed to ditch all of the old wives methods, because our moms and grandma's were wrong. Well, Crisco is my hair's best friend these days.

That frequent washing with shampoo is necessary. I wash with shampoo every few weeks and my hair is retaining moisture and length.

Wash-n-Go and wet buns...they're devil.

Agreed @greenandchic. I have a small bottle of Pureology hydrate poo (sulfate-free) and it is murder to my hair. I may have to add some pracaxi oil to it and hope for the best.

Hard protein treatments are not for naturals.

Switching to exclusively hard protein treatments has saved my hair. Reconstructors never did anything for me.
Girl @julzinha, you are spot on with the hard protein. I'm mildly texlaxed, maybe once every 10-12 months or so, sometimes 8 months and I use hard proteins every 2 months and they have saved my hair, making it stronger than ever before. I'm never giving them up.

This x 1,000,000

While I recognize that SOME have a problem with protein sensitivity, avoiding protein is not a one size fits all approach. This is where I've learned the importance of understanding your hair type. Protein is especially important for fine and medium strands - from there it's just a matter of determining protein strength needed and how often.

I remember a time when there were a ton of moisture only threads... Followed by a ton of threads on moisture overload.
