The Aloe Vera Plant

I've been thinking about buying an Aloe Vera plant. Apart from it's very many useful medicinal purposes, it's supposed to be excellent for hair growth.

Do any ladies use an aloe vera plant, and I do mean an actual plant as the gels that you buy contain preservatives in them. If so, have you seen any benefits from usage? :)

I have. Make sure you get the plant with out the spots on the leaves. I go to the asian store and purchase a large leaf for about $1, it last a very long during the winter months.

I mostly use food grade aloe vera gel (to add to my leave-ins and conditioner and hair masks), but I use the plant sometimes for gel to slick my hair down and every few weeks, I cut the leaf, scrape the gel into my infuser (my small potpourri crock pot), add filter water, cut the leaves up (to get to the rest of the gel) and infuse this for a couple of hours with horsetail and nettle for a hair strengthening treatment. I spray on and leave on at least two hours and it leaves my hair soft and strong.

I just started using it as we have several plants in our backyard. Will let you know how it is going after a few months of use..........although that is very dependent upon if I discover it was not the culprit that gave me a nasty headache a couple of days ago!!!!

@snookes Thanks for bumping this...I was just getting ready to do a search on this since I just bought an aloe vera plant. I just planted it, so I haven't gotten to use it yet. But my aloe plant has spots on the leaves.

I have four young Aloes, given to me by my auntie. I am waiting for them to mature before I actively start cutting but a couple of the leaves have been bent by guests:mad: and I've cut and used them on my hairline on wash day. Its funny how my hair loves fresh Aloe but the juice or gel (in stores) leaves my hair hard.

I had 2 aloe plants. I used to rub the gel on my edges and seal with oil. I wasn't consistent though. It did make my hair feeling nice.
