Why Isn't She Getting More Attention????

There are some other naturals with long hair and their length and hair health are impressive but this goddess here takes the cake. I find her to be so honest about her regimen and growth and her length is super impressive. I haven't been so impressed with a naturals hair since LongHairDontCare (God rest her soul). What is impressive is that she basically retained every inch of hair for the past 5-6 years. HOW SWAY?!?!
Just wanted to share some hair porn!

We have talked about 22 Century before and she is a member. The second one is new to me.

Oh I know that... But I am referring to her recognition in general. She is amazing but it seems like she is overlooked as compared to some others. I am not going to name any because I don't want to pit one against the other or throw anyone under the bus. I just feel like she should be recognized far more than what she is.

I see what you're saying.

In my mind she's huge/legendary.

If I had to guess, I would say others are instructing in styling and are trialing all sorts of products, and maybe that's drawing in their views.

22nd Century Natural Woman is doing something valuable yet different: Focusing on length retention, regimen, technique, and the same products and styles repeatedly.

Perhaps a person who trials 50 different products and instructs on 25 different hair styles will catch the attention of a wide "net" of people intrigued or searching for content on those numerous products and styles.

Also, the handful of super popular hair gurus have a LOT of additional content (entire channels) and endorsements and engagements that expose them to more viewers as well.

Maybe this has something to do with it.

Her fans are numerous and loyal, though. Her website product reviews are glowing.

This might just be my millennial POV, but it could relate to the length of video, the speech, delivery, video/audio quality, etc. I will not watch a 20 minute video, I don't have the time. I need to know exactly what the video is about by the title, therefor I wouldn't watch that video for a second reason.

I've tried watching a video of hers before and her introduction was too long and then I forgot what I was watching and went to a different video. I usually like something I can play on one monitor while doing something else, so it's very important that the audio is clear enough for me to not rely fully on visual references.

I don't care much about product reviews (those are mostly sponsored, lies, bandwagons and generally annoying) but I do like high quality video production. That's just me, but others may subconsciously find the lack of pleasing aesthetic a distract-er from the actual content of her videos. Who knows. That's just my view and why I don't really follow her. :)

Because of the same reason why LHCF isn't that popular amongst the masses: she offers quality and sound advice about hair care. Folks want quick schemes for hair growth. I for one really like her, she and MahoganyCurls were the only ones I truly followed. Planning to purchase her hair stew very soon.

I agree... Her hair is stunning and her regimen and technique are obviously sound but she's just too long winded for me. That's the only reason I can't really get into her like I would if she would condense it down to like 10 mins instead of her usual 20 or more.

You are not alone. I'm far from being a millennial and can't watch videos that are 20 minutes. I especially click off on long unnecessary introductions and lip smacking in the beginning.

I love her videos and advice. Her Deep Conditioner is the only conditioner that I use for my hair and it's the best that I've ever tried. My hair loves Shea Butter.

In my opinion, she's not getting the recognition that she deserves is because people want a quick fix and want to do these protective styles that are actually pulling all of their hair out and using low-quality ingredients that are keeping their hair dry and scalp itchy.

The techniques that she teaches will only work with people who are patient and willing to commit to the long-term health of their hair. Not someone who wants to try a bunch of product to feed their addictions. Just my opinion

Ah the lips smacking and the personal information as to why they took so long to post a video before they get into the actual video is so annoying. I turn away because I DON'T CARE WHERE YOU WERE OR WHY! Just get with it already.

But I'll sit and watch 22Century no matter what because I like her. I don't care how long she takes to get her point accross. I'll take her hand and her walker and help her along the path. Plus her hair is goals.

22 century shares some unconventional non-hair related ideas in many of her hair videos. That plus the amount of time in her videos devoted to talking, not instructing, can be a turn off to many people. I think she has a nice spirit but I still often don't watch the entirety of her videos.

At one point I was planning on buying come of her hair products. However, she posted a video about a bad hospital experience that she had, and towards the end of the video she urged new mom's not to give their newborns vaccinations, implying that doctors don't even know whats in it and it could be harmful for kids. While she has every right to her opinion and definitely has a right to share her experience, it was a poor business move.

As a potential costumer I lost trust that she has properly taken into account all aspects of ensuring that there is no bacterial growth in her products in her home, transit, or my home. If she can make such statements on her business platform without using research to back up her claim, I began to question her judgement and whether she is consulting science with any of her concoctions. You can sell anything online. As far as I know, no government agency is actively making sure that the cosmetic products that we receive in the mail are safe to use, especially among small scale distributors.

@ bold, I've been wanting To watch and sit through one of her detangling sessions for The longest! Come lady show us how you detangled all that hair please!

She's probably right about the vaccines though. They are linked to a lot of illnesses so I've read. But I'm not the one to posts studied facts because I'm lazy.

Lol I’m lazy too and I don’t want to hijack the hair forum with the ends and outs of current vaccine lit. But I’m all about people making their own informed decisions about their health care.

Google scholar gives access to lots of studies if someone did want to look into it more.

Also we all can ask about the names of each vaccine our doctor is suggesting and go to the manufacturers website. Each one has to list all known side effects and which people are at greater risk of getting side effects. The page with all the good information is usually in small print and without any fun colors lol. We can look up the disease that the vaccine is guarding against and do our own cost-benefit assessment.

So true.
I bought a homemade product ( not 22 Century)at a hair show a few years ago and the next morning there was a mold on it. Ever since, I make my own if necessary.

I'm not a millennial either, but those videos are too long for me. I think I've seen a whole slew of 1 hour videos on her page. I can't but I really want to learn more about her and her techniques. Maybe if she added links to the info section in her description box indicating when the info actually starts in the video would help. Also, her Instagram page seems to be mostly pics of her products and hardly any of her hair. I think if she showcased her hair more then I'd be more likely to follow her on there. (ETA: It seems that she started posting pictures of herself, again.)

Same here and I’m mid 30s. This woman has gorgeous hair but she’s not my cup of tea. She talks wayyyyyyyyy too much and is not enjoyable to watch.
I’m picky tho - I prefer my videos to be short and to the point and good quality. I hate extra faces, silly jokes, anything unnecessary and drawn out that seems extra/overdone or contrived. Just let your personality shine w/o the gimmicks or get straight to the point.

I also don’t like that I can’t get solid product reviews bc so many things are sponsored or band wagon stuff.

I'm 33. Anything over 8 minutes about hair is too long in my opinion.
I can't sit through 14 minute plus hair videos... and hers are poor quality and all over the place.

Her hair is gorgeous.
To get to the next level in YouTube land (if that's what she even wants) she is going to have to regroup and relaunch.

I agree with this.

She’s all around a beautiful and well versed lady, but it comes to down to what you’re using YouTube for. Most of the ladies I see make YouTube their first or second source of income. There will be ads, endorsements, paid product reviews, etc.

22nd Century, as far as I know, makes all of her own products, and probably has a main source of income that isn’t YouTube. She’s just making videos that showcase her progress and everything that she’s learned, and those who find her content keep up with her because what she says, clearly isn’t something that’s full of fluff either.

Her videos are definitely longer, and to the younger audience, they more or less don’t wish to be bothered watching all of that. She has a different personality was well, and everyone has their preferences, regardless of how long someone’s hair is, how well they do their makeup, or whatever they’re showcasing on their channel.

Doesn’t take away from her accomplishments though. I still find her a wonderful.

I just went to her channel and randomly picked a video to see how viewer-friendly it would be.

I randomly picked this one. I had to stop a minute in, because I'm using my own data. After a minute, I didn't have much information. My conclusion is that maybe that is off-putting to new subscribers?

I think it would be exciting for viewers if she wrote an outline for 5-minute videos and produced 10 of those on various topics.

Good point. Definitely agree.

I’m rather hyperactive most of the time, so 3-6 min videos catch my attention, and I’ll watch a ton of them, versus one 20 min video.
