Are you at peace with your shrinkage?

Shrinkage is just another part of having nappy hair :) I like to think of it as my hair's very own form of self protection. I think it's awesome how my hair shrinks up when I go out in cold weather! I am @ peace.

@pookaloo83 I use to wash in braids because of fear of tangles & knots. Since using the mud wash (1mnth) I've been washing my hair loose for the first time since being natural. After washing I section hair, apply leave in and twist it up. I then take each section and prep for two strand twist. The only style I have been doing since wearing my hair loose.
When wet my hair doesn't shrink as much as I though it would. Are you ladies allowing your hair to shrink from its wet un-manipulated state? This is what my hair looks like wet & naked.
ETA: wet & naked hair. uughh sorry hair terms can be weird.
My hair shrinks like 50-60% when wet not sure about dry & un-manipulated.
I am APL
I have conjured up some oils to regrow front hair line. It's better already. pics were about a month ago

I am because I love the appearance of my shrinkage and how my hair can go from long to short. I also love how it fools me into thinking my hair is thick etc. I am at peace with my shrinkage.

hair4romheaven @ the bold: No. My hair is always manipulated. The bidness of holding on heads still so definition shows is just gobbledygook to me; totally foreign and unnatural. So my hair is usually combed out even when it shrinks from its wet state.

Otherwise it's shrunken from being plaited and bagged for the night. I comb it out, and let it do its thang. I don't wet my hair or reapply anything when wearing it out after baggying but it's fully combed out.

LOL at you feeling a need to clarify "wet and naked". :lachen: It's OK. You could be wet and naked, as long as we don't see it, your secret will be safe with us.

Huh @ bolded??
I understand what state you guys are referencing when you say shrinkage. I know on wet hair I can't let it shrink I would have a mess. So to answer the question I have about 50% shrinkage after my hair is dried in a manipulated state. (Like twist or twist outs) As most know I haven't combed my hair in over a year close to two.
Girl when I re-read my post I was like  yes our hair terms are off. "hair porn" naked hair" LOL

Yep!

To use the most over-quoted statement of the moment: it is what it is...

I've released any issues related to my shrinkage 'cause that's just the way it is. And, the more moisturized my hair, the more it shrinks up. So. Yeah. We cool!

I am in no way at peace with my shrinkage. The only way to combat (loosen my curl pattern) it is to heat train or use chemicals, neither of which I want to do. I wore my hair out in a "fro" with a headband today (initially I loved the look), but as the day went on the moisture that lengthened my curls past shoulder length evaporated and had my hair shrunken to my ears.

I hated how it looked because my face is round and a fro is NOT flattering on me; neither is short hair. So, I don't like to wear my hair out because I get annoyed with the shrinkage. But as length comes, I will wear it out more. Shrinkage will still be there, but I will be able to realize more length as time goes on.

If my hair is not APL or longer hanging, I usually do NOT feel the look on me (unless it's a really cute short wavy/curl wig or weave). One reason I was tempted to try a "natural relaxer" called CurlAway this past week was due to shrinkage and how tight and hard-to-manage my curls can be.

But when I saw that $20 price tag for a 4oz jar of gel that may not work or may damage my hair, I didn't buy it, and decided to just try and get over the shrinkage.

Water and moisture lengthen and expand my curls (taking me from a tight 4a/b look when dry to a loose, curly 3b easy), and I have about 50-70% shrinkage. 50 in most places, 70 in the back center of my hair. It TRULY annoys me that my past BSL length hair looked like it was ear length today. :nono:

And, maybe its because I just let the curls shrink up (finger comb), and I don't pick out or comb out my hair. I bet if I combed the curls out some while dry (or with a hair creme), I would not have as much shrinkage.

YES!!! Cause if it was the length in which it is straightened I'd lose my mind I swear. It loves to catch onto stuff and get caught in things...and when it sheds I think something is CRAWLING on me! I'm just fine with my shrinkage being a little past my shoulders.

I love my shrinkage in the summer, yes! I love TWA's because they look so sleek and modern. But I am growing my hair because I want the world to know nappy headed black folk can do anything they want to. A lot of ladies cut off all their hair in order to look professional. Lots of short haired ladies at the office, then they have to get hair cuts like men to maintain it. But not me, I can grow my hair as long as I want, and it still shrinks up to a TWA.

This summer it was so hot, I just hated having hair, so I got the idea to wet my hair, and put in some moisture. She started shrinking to a wet TWA, and I was cool all day! I was dunking and shrinking all summer.
