OK... I have shaved my head for the fourth time since December 2019!

I am trying to grow my hair out. Eventually I would like to get to MBL but at this point I'd be happy if I can make it back to shoulder length.

Just so you know.... my 4a/b hair was shoulder length. I was trying to grow it out past that; however, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The chemo cause all of my hair to fall out. After I was done with the chemo, my hair grew back in 3b/3c/4a. I made it back to shoulder length then seriously neglected my hair to the point that I (a) didn't wash it for months and (b) kept it in a pony tail with a phony bun on top. The end result is that it started breaking off in spots.

I noticed that I had also developed eczema or psoriasis on my scalp. My scalp was EXTREMELY itchy. It got to a point that I had to shave it off several times because it was growing SERIOUSLY uneven.

I just got it shaved off again two weeks ago and I am trying to get it right so I won't have to do it again. I'd like to grow 3-4 inches by the end of November.

I need a simple regimen (with products) that will (a) help me stop the itchy scalp and (b) help me grow in healthy hair.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @HappilyLiberal, praise God for your recovery!

I don't have product recommendations as I'm a DIYer (I assume you meant ready-made products), but regarding eczema/itchy scalp, apple cider vinegar, aloe vera gel/leaf/juice, neem oil, oils or teas made with chamomile, burdock root, fenugreek or marshmallow root should help cut down and even eliminate itchiness.

It also helps to increase moisturisation from within (increase water intake, herbal teas, fatty foods like flaxseeds, olive oil, etc).

I've heard good things about NaturelleGrow products but I've never used them. @IDareT'sHair knows a lot about good products. I hope she or someone else can help with that.

Good luck on this chapter of your journey!

i can't help with the psoriasis but maybe try chagrin valleys shampoo bars. They have many different types for different conditions and its made with all natural ingredients. They have super fast shipping and clean well but i would also use a sulfate shampoo occassionally to clarify and really cleanse the scalp

u need a dc, shea moisture makes some really good ones. i personally love the manuka honey and mafura... camille rose did nothing for my hair. If u wanna try online stuff honeyshandmade honey hydrate deep conditioner is great but it doesnt smell that great to me so i use the honey and hibiscus conditioning mask.... i use it for 30 min with heat.

protein i just mix my favorite moisturizing dc with colorful neutral protein filler. the protein filler has to be kept in the fridge to stay fresh but its a life saver. use protein as needed

trims as needed.... it really did help me get past my hair plateau though so i am on a schedule of every 6 months...

leave ins its important to use a leave in and seal to impart and keep your hair moisturized. i love mielle organics white peony but if u want something thicker go with kinky curly knot today.

sealants... my fave are castor oil or my shea butter mix... u can also double seal as i call it with both

moisturize regularly with a moisturizing cream in between wash days my fave is qhemet biologics olive and amla heavy cream...

thats all u really need
hth!!!!

I am so happy to hear that you are now in better health. What a blessing!

I have done a fade twice, and this is my regimen when I do it. I do mostly commercial products
-Wash and condition every 2-3 days (DC on one of those washes once I have at least 2 inches of hair), usually with design essentials almond and avocado
-Light scalp oil only until about 1 inch of hair (mane choice growth oil is nice for this)
-After that, just do leave-in and gel (I like it’s a 10 or the Sally’s knock off for leave in, and ecostyler)
-quick scalp massage with castor oil before bed and start wearing a scarf after 1 inch

External: plenty of water, balanced diet, exercise, and a hair-skin-nails vitamin

ETA: I would consider seeing a derm about your scalp just for some insight after trying the above for maybe a month.

The best thing that helped with my scalp issues was mixing apricot seed oil and tea tree oil and applying lightly morning and night. Helped out instantly!
