Thanks for the information Kiesha.

For the ladies that are not using shampoo, are you not getting buildup?

After a week or so with just oil rinses and conditoners, how does your hair smell?:drunk:

I dilute my CON shampoo and use a bit of it once a week, but I dont know if I can go without using it. I get buildup even when i use my ACV, so if i start oil rinses without shampooing at all I can just imagin the gunk that wil lbe on my scalp:nono::nono:

I don't get build-up at all. I realized the less product I use during the week, the better. Since I don't really moisturize my hair during the week (I usually moisturize/seal with oil 2-3 times a week) I don't really have that much buildup. However, I do notice that the closer I am too touch-up, the more I need to wash.

Since I've only done oil rinsing one time, I can't really speak for results yet, it hasn't even been a day and I'm already sold  But I will wait one week and let you all know how my hair feels.

Great point Kiesha!

What is your technique for oil washing? How often do you plan to do it?

TIA

Well, I just parted my dry, dirty hair, and applied the WGHO. Let it sit while I went running....then I went in the shower and wet my hair. I used more oil (like a tablespoon full) and massaged it in each section, then rinsed it out. I think we are all in agreement that WGHO stink like burning garbage, and knew I couldn't leave my house like that :lachen:So I diluted a tiny tiny bit of Victoria Secret conditioner and spread it throughout my hair and it completely masked the smell. Then under running warm water, I detangled and braided my hair in one dooky braid (under running water). And my hair was really REALLY oily still, but I didn't really care. My braid was soaking wet, and I didn't care either, lol. I just draped a towel over my shoulders for an hour till it stopped dripping, put on a silk scarf, and went to bed.

This morning when I woke up, I couldn't believe how my hair soaked up all the oil and was unbelievably soft and moisturized. And the bling! My hair was like a totally different texture. My bro said I looked mixed!! My hair looked like it changed from the 4's to the 3's overnight lol. Anyway, my hair was not oily at all, and all I could smell was the VS conditioner. My hair is now 95% dry, it usually takes 3 days for my hair to completely airdry, but it looks like it will dry in just 2 days.

I'm very happy about this and will continue doing oil rinsing once a week. Once I get all the details, maybe someone can start an oil rinsing challenge (is there one out there?!) accomodating all the Indian techniques. Then I'll do maybe a different oil each wash and see how each benefits my hair. Can you all tell that I'm having a field day with this???

This is very interesting and informative. I noticed that since I stopped shampooing my hair and started doing co-washes (with a tiny bit of natural castile soap mixed in) my hair started to grow much more. And since I started using Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Coconut oil my hair has become thicker and healthier. Your friend is definitely on to something!

She sure is! It's funny that it's not just her, it's like many women in South India do it (I don't want to speak for all of India, cuz she said she only knows if other areas in India does it as well). It must be something they doin right!

This is such a great posting and very informative! Thanks so much! I was also wondering why in Duabi I would see little indian babies with very short hair. I think I might have to get up on this oil rinsing thing. Thanks lady!

Thank you for the post, Kiesha! This was a very informing read and maybe I'll give oil rinsing another try. I tried it with Vatika oil and didn't notice a difference. Perhaps I didn't do it correctly.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi everyone and sorry to sound confusing but I just wanted to get this oil rinse thing down to a science.

Firstly I see the various types of oils that you have mentioned but where do I buy these oils from. Do they sell them in the beauty supply stores or do I have to go to a health food store. The last time I tried to find these oils on my own, I only saw, in the health food store, tiny bottle and I thought to myself this could not be what everyone is talking about at $6 and up a bottle.

Is their a particular product whose ingredients contains a blend of only the essential oils.

Can I buy them from online?

Now to the ‘how to’ part. I am seeing a mixture of dry hair/wet hair applications. Which is better? Do I apply it to dry hair, massage it in, let it sit for a while with heat/without heat, then rinse with or without conditioner.

Or do I wet my hair, and use the oil as if it were shampoo/conditioner, then rinse out.

Sorry for all of the questions.

Wow! Thanks for this info. You know my great grandmother and her sister believed in coconut oil. That's all they put in their hair ever. My great grand mother had thick WL hair and her sister had TBL hair. hmmmm....interesting. I really just can't stand the smell though:nono:. I do use it but not as much as olive or castor oil.

TRY MONOI OIL IT SMELLS GREAT. ( COCONUT OIL INFUSED WITH GARDENIA FLOWERS)
I USE THIS ONE EVERY DAY.

Coconut oil is one of the best oils out there. I get really good results with the Vatika oil too, which has coconut oil in it. I am due for a washing so maybe I'll wash my hair and then leave the coconut oil in there overnight and see what I get. Thanks for posting

is this coconut oil you ladies are buying in solid or liquid form? Does coconut oil made by softee http://www.buzzillions.com/prd-114806-softee-coconut-oil-hair-scalp-conditioner-reviews/ work?

Nah, that one is mostly just a regular grease/vasaline with coconut oil in it.
The one you want will be in a grocery store if you find it locally, not a hair store, just like olive oil or something. :yep:
Theres only one form of it, but if it gets warm (like room temp or warmer) or if you put some in your hands it will turn into liquid form, when it gets colder than room temp then it will turn solid like cocoa butter.

You welcome!
If you have a grocery store called Blooms in your area, they sell it there in the organic section, the brand is spectrum.

But if you can, get "extra virgin coconut oil" or/and "unrefined"...thats the best. Also very good if it says "undeoderized", Those will smell good and be better.

If you order offline, you might want to try this one http://www.vitacost.com/Nutiva-Organic-Extra-Virgin-Coconut-Oil (Vindiesel posted some other good sites on the page before this)
