I could tell you that the cut looks good and that it will grow, but I'm quite sure that is not going to make you feel better. Wow, I would be so mad. (Actually, it happened to me many years ago that a stylist who I trusted cut my hair too short and in a style I didn't like. I was not happy. It really bothered me.) Your stylist shouldn't have done that. That was just wrong. I hope you won't be going back to her, as she doesn't seem to understand your hair goals.

I read so many of these kinds of stories and that's one of the reasons I don't go to salons. I haven't trimmed my hair in two years and don't plan on it right now. But I think I'll do it myself or have my husband do it if the time comes when I think it's necessary. I know he'll trim only what I tell him, as he did it in the past when I was transitioning. Maybe someone you know can help you out with trimming your hair in the future?

Why do some stylists have to be so scissor happy. :( I'm really sorry that happened to you. Luckily, hair grows, but I completely understand that fact is probably not of great comfort right now. You just want your hair back now.

Man that girl was wrong for telling you that, but your hair does look great in both pictures.
I think you should just learn how to trim yourself, that way you can maintain that look, and when your hair gets long enough and you feel like you can trust that woman or another stylist (preferably someone else lol that knows what theyre talkin about) you can go back and get a cut or professional trim or whatever. Anyone can cut their own hair, and I would only let someone else cut mine if... wait, I wouldnt :D
Ive been cutting my own hair since some Korean (no offense) lady chopped my hair about an inch shorter than yours is now saying it would grow better. Its not perfect (some people dont like the jagged, wild cuts I be giving myself) but I love it so its all good. I think if you do it yourself after getting some help youll end up happier with it.

I'll ask. Who did you go to? (so I can stay away)

Fortunately, your hair looks great in both styles, and it will go back.

I actually went to a place in Birmingham, AL called "Gildra's House of Style". This lady has been doing my hair since I was 14. But as of late, she has been choppin my **** off! The last time I told her I wanted something new she gave me a bob like Rhianna's. This fortunately turned out to be something I reeeeally loved. But then again she cut off about 5 inches that time. But I liked it a lot. But she still never told me she was going to cut that much. So, like you guys have said, I'm going to try and clip my own ends and things. I just go to a salon now to get a relaxer. This has been working pretty good.

It's amazing. You have to be really gansta and specific when you go into a salon these days. If you don't you'll end up like me! Thank YOU ALL for your support. What would I do without LHCF?!

This is why I left my last stylist. Even though she kept my hair one length, she cut off a lot more than she should have for a "trim". Also, when I told her I wanted my hair to grow longer she got upset, raised her voice, and yelled "some hair just doesn't get any longer!" She's crazy.

I have bookmarked so many links on how to self-trim. I haven't done it yet, though. I have a pair of shears I use for "search and destroy". My last trim was in February, and my ex-stylist did it.

The quote below is what I was thinking too. After reading the stories on this board, I decided not to let anyone near my head with scissors except me. I like my ends trimmed where the hair is separated into small sections and trimmed.

One day while doing a rollerset, I noticed that my ends were rough and it occurred to me to trim the ends before I wrap the hair around the roller. That worked perfect and ensured that I didn't haphazardly cut my hair, giving it a jagged appearance (which I have done before). I was able to go thru my hair thoroughly and TRIM, not cut. My hair is still in great shape. I just thought I would share my method with you. I hope this helps.:)

IMO there was no need for that CUT, not trim. Your hair is gorgeous in the both photos and looks really healthy in the first one. You have to learn to do your own trims. One stylists bad day is 10 months of catching up to where you used to be.
