Why the desire to use the word "curls" in reference to kinky natural hair?

That's just one of the labels that most hair companies use to describe their products ... i.e. fine, thick, straight, curly, or color-treated hair. Plus, it's easier to explain that you have "curly" hair then trying to say ... it's a 4a/4b mix or something similar to that unless you're talking to a stylist or Niko's cousin. I don't think it's that deep.

Curl
n.
1. Something with a spiral or coiled shape.

Coil and curly are the same, just a different size. Used to desribe the pattern in some natrual hair.

To me "kinky" or "nappy" are words to describe the texture, like frizzy.

For example one of my white male friends and i were talking hair. He has curly(2c-ish) hair and he describes my hair as curly like his.. only a "smaller curl and frizzier".
