Now you know your hair is too darn long.......

Most of you know that hubby has very long locs. Well, I think it's finally time to cut his hair. We were on vacation for our anniversary a few weeks ago and his hair hit the ceiling fan in our suite when he was flipping it around to get dressed. We were at the pool and when he flipped his hair to dry off with a towel and it hit me and nearly knocked my drink out of my hand.

Yesterday at brunch he nearly got locs in someone's food as he put on his coat and flipped his hair back. A waiter was standing behind him with two plates and he quickly moved to keep hair out of his customers food. :lachen: Well, tonight after dinner he was flipping his hair around and slapped me in the face with it. I've woken up more than once with the feeling that his hair was suffocating me. He sleeps with his hair loose.

Now, the question is how to tell him to cut it:perplexed
Or at least that he has to keep it in some kind of style that won't kill me :yep:

I can't breathe. This is hilarious. I don't know what to tell you but if his hair is affecting the personal safety of others, it's time to cut...trim...something!

Aww, dont make him cut it! Maybe show him how to perfect manly, yet neat styles for locs. Rappers Wale' and 2 Chainz wear nice braided and ponytail styles with their long locs. Lol cute stories!

but what if his strength is in his hair? j/k, i say ask him if he plans to cut it soon.

I feel your pain. My friends locs are the same length & I told him he needs to cut them. Theyve slapped me in the face 1 too many times. I bring up cutting it often & now hes finally giving in & hes going to actually let me cut it.

Too Funny!
His locs look nice and neat.

I want my hair to grow long enough so I can slap people with it :giggle: so I can't give any tips on convincing him to cut due to that reason alone, but the fact that his hair nearly got caught in a fan is a big no no; his safety, health & well-being are way more important than long locs.

:lol::lachen::lachen:Maybe just tell him what you told us. Give him straight facts and tell him you believe the time has come.

I co sign but I would like to add you can give him the facts straight and ask him to cut it or give a counter offer. "IF you don't cut it, Imma need you to be extra cautious and not flip your hair. It is getting longer so you'll have to be considerate of those around you. I realize you had no idea this was happening but now that you know, don't be surprised if I occasionally remind you when you're doing the flipping thing again in hopes that you can adjust this behavior and keep your hair. Otherwise it has GOT to go"

Another great possibility.:yep: Now he has three options. I would not want to give him an ultimatum of "cut it or else" because I wouldn't want him to think you're trying to "change him" and that you "loved" his locks once but once married they're going to have to go and next thing you know he's like the borge with a buzz cut or shaved head. :lachen:

I know you're not going there but I could see his eye brow rising thinking...what's next? When really it's not that serious. You just don't want eye damage after he's popped you in the eye with one of his locks. Basically you want to find a way to work with him and keep his style, but also protect harmless by standers in his path.

So a revised thing looks like this
You:
Hey hun here are three options for your dreads that I love, and are so sexy but I don't want a concussion
1) cut them....I know gasp because I would hate to resort to this or....
2) please be extra cautious when flipping them around people and I'll remind you in the beginning if I'm say accosted by one of your dreads, or a poor waiter is popped in the forehead because I'm sure it will be an adjustment. OR
3) Let's think of manly styles like these (show pics) that will allow them to remain neat and out of the way so that you can keep your dreads and we can keep hair out of the food at restaurants.

Which one do you want to do? Think it over and get back to me later today k?

lol OP all I keep hearing is the song as I read your post. Maybe your hubby is completely oblivious to the effects of his loose locs! Maybe you should just have a nice and gentle conversation to point out some of the reasons he should consider cutting it or putting them up.

cut it in his sleep..

Uh, not that serious, I dont think. That would lead to serious problems I think...in the marriage. Some ppl are serious about their hair and dont cut it or grow it long for spiritual reasons. Afterall, he might turn around and chop hers off in her sleep if she did something so insensitive and cruel. There are better ways to remedy the problem, Im sure. :look:

It seems that flipping the locs is the issue, not the length. Tell him his hair is too long to flip. It is rude, he is getting hair in peoples food, and getting caught in ceiling fans. Furthermore, women with long hair tie their hair up at night so that it doesn't get tangled around the man in their bed, so he needs to tie his hair up at night.

I see many Men with dreads that tie them up in scarves or hats, in order to be considerate of those around them. Show him pictures of men with long locs tied in scarves and hats. Hope that helps.

We talked about it last night and he doesn't tie it up when he sleeps since he can't move his head comfortably. The way he was tying it up years ago was sort of like a low bun. His neck would ache and he just stopped tying up his hair.

My hair has never been that long and thick so I've never experienced neck pain due to my hair.

His locs are beautiful! Just tell him that he isn't Willow Smith so he needs to stop whipping his hair back and forth lol.

Samson is going to need to cut it! he will be alright with BSB locs!

If he sleeps on his back he can tie them in a now around his neck (loosely of course!!!) or wrap them up under his arms and around his shoulders. Or do two French braids and hang them to the front.

Lord idk I'm trying to be creative.

Ban him from hair flipping though. Forever.

His locks are beautiful but if I had seen hair being flipped that close to my food, I would sent it back! :/

haha, I'm sorry, I have a very weird sense of humour, but no I'm not serious no need to hide the scissors away from me while you're sleeping! I was just adding to the silliness

No comment on weather to cut them but his locks are awesome! Your reasons for wanting to cut them are legit but also sooo so very funny!

:lachen: :lachen: I just imagined all of that and loled. Anyway, just tell him to stop the dang whipping...and maybe get a bigger bed? :scratchch

Those locs are beautiful! Maybe a good compromise would be to help him find creative yet masculine ways to tie his hair down or up? You could do these styles for him maybe as part of your night time or morning ritual? Although truth be told, if it were me and those locs, that would probably lead to us not getting much sleep at night, or constantly being late in the morning! (No disrespect to your hubby -- simply admiring the bountiful hair blessings you have at home!)
