Deep Wave "curlformers"... Hmmmm

I'm going to try these.

I've never used regular curl formers because I don't like the spirals they produce. So I'm not sure what LENGTH of these wave formers I should purchase.

My hair is a little past shoulder length when stretched. What size of these do you think I should order? Thanks in advance!
Maybe 14 inches? Im not sure they sell that length though. take a stretched measurement of your hair and see... I'd err on the longer side because you don't want to go shorter and have ends sticking out

Awwww! What is your hair type? Are you relaxed or natural? Do you think this would work for type 4a natural hair? Or is it hard to know. TIA!

My hair is 3b and very frizzy but yes I am relaxed. I may as well be natural because my hair is so frizzy and still has so much curl left in it. When i used these I hadn't relaxed my hair in many months and now I'm transitioning.

Well I have seen that traditional shaped curlformers work beautifully in natural hair. I could see these working as well but one caveat is that I noticed that after my hair was inside the wave curl former that the hair would look all sort of scraggly as if it didn't pull through smoothly and one inside theres no way to remedy that. i could not figure out to prevent that. I don't recall having that issue with the spiral ones... and that issue could cause frizz.

When this happened, I just took it out and reinstalled with less hair in the curlformer. That solved it for me.

I forgot to mention, compared to spiral curlformers, this style will not hold as long. Once the waves drop they just go straight (or puffy straight in my first trial). When I tried it, I used Ecostyler gel, which left a weird white cast after taking out the curlformers. Next time, I'll try a lighter gel or setting foam.

Any updates on where to purchase these?

I neeeeeed.

I bought from AliExpress but seller I used appears to be inactive. This seller has 30 cm one. I'm looking for more sellers right now...

This seller has 45cm. This one too.

I haven't used the link sellers and mine were packaged differently but, I imagine the quality is about the same.

I finally tried the curlformers again, this time using serum and setting foam. the end result is pretty, but has no hold. I took pics as fast as I could and didn't fluff or separate.

I really like the look and when my hair gets longer will add the spiral curlformers to the ends rather than trying to find more wave curlformers. I just need to figure out what product will deliver the hold i need.

My roots are very smooth and straight. I imagine that if I wanted straight hair, I could wrap my hair or roll on rollers. Since I want my ends protected, I'll only wear it down tonight, and do a cute updo or bun tomorrow.

This is with half my head done. My set came with two different colors, like they do with the spiral curlformers, but it doesn't matter which color you use because it makes the same pattern.

ETA: I used 36 deep wave curlformers to get this look.

Hair serum (proclaim Glossing polish) and setting foam (Silk Elements styling foam).

It didn't give me enough hold for the style to last. When the waves fell, I was left with soft straightish hair. I've already put it in an updo.
Your hair looks so lovely!
Could I ask how easy it is to typically straighten your hair? Like, does roller setting usually get it mostly straight?

I'm definitely getting these for the price! Even if the style doesn't last, like y'all said these would be perfect for stretching!!
That would be awesome if I could get the style to last. @ShredsofDignity those result photos were gorgeous! Maybe they'd work on my hair if I used a setting lotion and maybe did some lose braids at night to maintain...

Thank you! I could not get the style to last :(. It just stretched right out. If I figured out how to I'd buy them again. I sold most of mine

Bumping.

I did a pre-run practice with those on two small sections in the front of my head. I have finally learned: When trying something time-consuming and new, do a small test-run first! I did the set on DAMP, very coily, 4a hair using Design Essentials honey foam.

Right now I am not inspired to do this over my entire head:
  • I feel like the sections need to be VERY tiny in order for the hair to come out smooth.
  • Also, my hair is short, and the waves are so deep that I'm not sure how great the overall look would come out -- due to how the WAVE ends on each piece of hair.
  • FINALLY, I feel I would need a super strong, crunchy hold for this style to be worth it. Maybe the style would last if I took a super hold hair spray and sprayed each wave after I removed the curlformers???
I tried to take a lot of photos to help people decide if they want to invest in these. With one of the curlformers, I put in an amount of hair narrower than the width of the curlformer. It came out MUCH smoother. With the other curlformer, I put in the amount of hair EQUAL to the width of the curformer. It didn't come out as smooth.

If I can find a way to get a very crunchy, strong, long-lasting hold, I might try a set. I hope I have enough wavy curlformers!: It seems like I'd need to make VERY small sections to get this to work.

@YvetteWithJoy do you have the original spiral/wide or narrow curlformers?
Do you think these are better for stretching for another style than them?
Thanks for the review and pics.

YW.

I have knock-off WAVY (not spiral) curlformers from China that I ordered off of Ebay last year. They are not the spiral or barrel normal curlformers. I don't own any other ones, so I can't compare the width of these deep wave curlformers to the normal, brand-name barrel or spiral curlformers.

When I first removed the one curlformer that gave the very smooth wave, I split the wavy hair in three with no additional manipulation, and it looked good. However, further manipulation led to frizz. And I can't see this lasting beyond a day without super hold, as in hard and crunchy hold. It's already falling after just a few hours and looking wilted.

I think it would be GREAT for stretching the hair for another style, such as an updo or gorgeous ponytail with a beautiful, wavy bang. I think it would be good for stetching the hair for TRIMMING purposes, as well.
