I cut my hair into a new style - MYSELF!!!

Hey LHCF ladies. Just wanted to share my latest hair triumph with you guys. Last Sunday, after flat ironing my hair that I'd been hiding for several months, I just couldn't fight the urge anymore...

...the urge to cut my hair that is! Mind you, I have absolutely no experience in this area besides eyebrow maintenance. But I wanted to try and see if I could do it myself. If I messed it up, I'd just go to one of my close friends who happens to be a great cosmetologist.

So anyway, after flat ironing my hair I just wasn't happy with it. I'd been thinking about cutting my hair for several months. Really since my mother passed, I just wanted to do something drastic. I don't really know why.

I wasn't happy with the appearance of my hair. I'm convinced that the ends was the hair I grew pre-LHCF. I had abolutely horrible hair habits before I found this board. So I always struggled with my hair feeling rough. So that, in my mind, is why they just weren't making me proud the way I want my hair to be make me proud.

So I did that thing where you put the ponytail at the top of your head and cut across. I cut maybe four inches this way and still couldn't tell much of a difference (can we say thin ends or this was maybe helping to layer my hair IDK b/c I didn't know what I was doing lol).

So I combed my hair in halves towards the front of my face and decided I wanted it to fall below my collarbone. I pulled my hair and cut it on an angle on both sides. Then I made bangs. That was maybe 3-4 more inches.

Then I tried to layer the back by taking the top half of the back of my hair, combing it to the front in a very tight bundle and cutting maybe two inches up. I think this helped my hair to have a lot of body.

Yall I am so happy with my hair. It is a great length for me and my height (5 ft. 11.5 inches). I plan to wear my hair down most everyday and possibly rollerset one week and flat iron the other week. I feel more like a grown woman like this. I will be less concerned about length retention and more concerned with style.

Sending a shout out to Gymfreak for her pincurling tip. My hair has responded wonderfully to that. Because my ends are so blunt, my hair flips up or down with ease.

I will trim my ends every 3 months so the game plan is to cut maybe 2 inches of hair each year and retain four inches.

I will still DC every week with heat and steam and do light protein treatments. I might even prepoo with coconut or olive oil. But with this SMB, my hair didn't feel dry, not at all for the whole week! Even now it feels so soft. That is unreal for me.

My hair feel like butta even though I flat ironed it. It isn't dry but very soft. I also think the Sabino Moisture Block might have something to do with it.

My ends feel like cat hair even though they've been hanging out all week. I really think this is because the hair left is the hair that I've babied for the past two years that I've been on LHCF. So we should be hopefully smooth sailing from here.

It feels good to have a fresh start. So enjoy the pics

Before the cut, past APL but just not happy:

I cut a little more hair than what is pictured, but you get the idea:

After the cut. The back:

I will still use weaves to have a change b/c I'm just like that. Get that weave out yo head!!! I've had this one for over a year at least but it still looks good:
