Covering Greys With Commercial Dyes - Tips Needed Please!

I've tried to embrace these greys but man... I'm finding it difficult! The grey hairs are across my entire hairline and spreading in the crown.

I've used henna and indigo (last application in March this year) but it's too messy and takes too long. I want to try commercial hair dye which I'd apply to my roots only. My hair is natural. DIY or salon? Semi-permanent or permanent? Do I do anything special to take care of the dyed hair? How long between retouches? You can tell I'm a total hair dye newbie, lol. Any advice would be welcome!

I used Adore (semi) for grey hair in jet black and it covered nicely the couple of strands I have.
Avoid oils that strip color
Use shampoo and conditioner formulated for color treated hair (a lot of natural hair products will strip, or fade color and do not penetrate the hair shaft when it comes to color)
Avoid using the baggy method, or conditioning for long periods of time.
Make sure you stay on top of your moisture.

I say try a semi-permanent first to see if it will work for you. Semi-permanent coats the strands. Demi-permanent and Permanent have some percentage of peroxide in them which penetrates the strands to some level. Depending on your hair they can work great. For me they made my ends too porous which caused more breakage.

I don't have any recommendations since my hair acts crazy with most products.

I use a demi permanent that I apply to my roots only. I use to use Clairol radiance but they discontinued it.:cry3: So now I have to try this Wella brand that I bought from Sally's when I take these braids out. I really loved my Clairol demi because it completely covered my grays and did not dry my hair out like the permanent dye did.

Try reshma henna dye. It's not as messy as regular henna. I've been using that for a couple of months. It's been covering my greys nicely. I've been redoing about every six weeks or when my greys are noticable again. I've used the violet and the natural black. They have several colors.
