FOTKI Why do we need to lock???

I read on the other thread of pet peeves for fotki's and was wondering, why do people lock their pictures? I read that as the number one pet peeve and understandably so. I have all of my stuff locked up because people say "pirates" steal? I'm like "steal what"? Why do my pics need to be protected? Do people take your pics and put their face to them? Why would someone act like they're growing their hair? Why lie about your hair? I have seen some things that look a little iffy, but hey, if you want to live in a fantasy world of some kind and make others believe it, go ahead if that's what keeps you from going to the mall and blowing innocent people away. But what is the real reason why we lock our pics. My number one pet peeve about owning a fotki is everyone asking for my password. Not that it bothers me so much it's that someone came and had to turn away. So is there any risk or danger to me not having my pics locked up??? I have my password posted in my siggy but no one ever uses it from here....I guess. Soooo, anyone....why do we have to lock them???

I have absolutely no idea why it's so serious that we have to lock them. I know people do it because they're face is shown, etc... but just don't show your face, then...

There's really wouldn't be any danger to you unless you put ALOT of personal info on your fotki. Also, people say because there are lurkers on here and they may see the pics.

Others don't want their face splashed all over everywhere.

Others want to know who's looking, to try and weed out pervs.

I blur my face, try to keep my location details to a minimum, and roll on.

Hmmmm, I have pics of my face but I really don't care who sees me, I walk in the streets all day and could get followed...you know. If someone uses one for porn, I'm sure that could be fought. You would be able to see some sort of manipulation to the pic. I'm thinking of unlocking mine. I hate that people come by and can't see my pics. THAT'S WHY I CREATED A FOTKI!!!!!

What I dont get is this: why have your pics locked up and then put the password in your siggy where the whole entire world can see it. That defeats the purpose IMO.

As far as someone stalking you, its just HAIR PICS!!! Who cares how many times they visit your albums! Take it as a compliment. I rarely look to see who visited my albums. Its not that important to me.

As far as someone stealing my pic, I dont see why anyone would want to steal my pics. I'm not famous. My hair isnt grazing the floor so I dont think Dr. Miracles or anybody will be looking to jack my pics to advertise like WGO did to Loveyaforever so I am not to worried about that either. To me it just aint all that serious.

You know what's funny? I see a lot of people on FOTKI with their perfunctory "do not steal my pictures" message...nothing is sacred people. There is always a way. They've got software like Snipit and photo capturing programs where you can still select the photos, copy and paste.

I have come across some really cute hairstyles and wanted to put them in my "memory bank." It's not stealing unless you plan to publish someone else's photos without their permission

I've only done it one time so don't label me a thief.

On her About Me page she had to make an announcement b/c WGO took her review of the product and put it on their website or something and they made it seem like WGO made her hair that long. I cant remember it exactly but go look up her fotki and look on her About Me page.

I am a private person and I don't like to let it all hang out especially online. This is the only site I gave my fotki link to. I would never show my face online and even though all my shots are back shots or face is covered I don't care.

I'm not paranoid like that but what's to prevent anyone from taking a face shot and making some kind of fake ID with it? Online I try to be as private as I can with my information. So I will continue to lock my fotki regardless if other people hate it. It's my journal I created it for myself and it's private to me. I don't need everyone in cyberspace to know my business.

i kinda hide my face and blur my fotki pics, because i know that my fotki is publicly available through the hair care tips forum... and i don't need a bunch of lurkers knowing what i look like.

same reason why my profile picture shows my face, but other pictures don't.

i wouldn't mind posting a full picture of me in off topic, or another member's only forum, because i know it has limited access.

And one other thing about the nasty comments. I leave them up. i got one or two and I didnt delete them. I got a good laugh and I wanted other people (who have sense) to get a good laugh too. I responded with tact of course, but again it aint that serious. I suppose its because I have a thick skin and it takes a lot to get me riled up. This is all my opinion so if yours is different dont get mad.

I think pw's are ok, and are an individual choice. There are many personal reasons for them. For me, some of my pics looked toooo jacked, and i didn't want eeeerrrrrr body looking at my chewed up-see through ends...... Still, i only had one pw for my main folder and left all subfolders unlocked.

some people run through fotkis just to cause troll like behavior by leaving nasty comments. I think that pw's help people protect themselves from all of that stress. Even if the troll behavior on the fotki continues, at least the fotki owner can know narrow down where the troll came from...

Also, i think many people create fotki's for the sole reason to share their progress to their LHCF (or other favorite forum) sisters. Having a pw makes it so that "outsiders" wont be able to view your most prized possessions. i dont know... i'm just rambling.....

I saw something similar once too. The fotki owner and a cowardly anonymous poster were going back and forth in the guestbook. I was like erplexed. Why? Whats the purpose? Just let the idiot be an idiot alone, all by themselves. Dont waste your time with them.

I lock mine because I am wearing a bra and do not want friends, family and people who know me to see that.

I don't use the fotki just for hair. I post a lot of photos for photo sharing among my friends. They think it is strange that I take pics of my hair growth, so therefore those pics are not shared with them.

I have my fotki locked because I do not want someone to steal my photos and I like to monitor who looks at my photos. I have pictures of me in my front lace wigs and it has been known that people will steal your picture and post it on their website saying that it is their work. When I had my fotki open I had this one guy look at my page everyday for a week, and the picture that he had on his page, he was nude. So each person has their reasons and that is my reason. I have shared my password with several members on this board so they could look at my photos. But right now, I’m redoing my fotki, so it is off limits to everyone.

Some people have pictures of family members on their page and do not want people to see it; it is there to share with only their family members and friends.

Some people have stalkers.

Some people are just private.

I know you can lock your pictures on fotki, but this day in age, someone still can get around that…

If I had bra pics or pics with me taking wet pics in the shower then yeah, I would prolly lock it up.

Also I have a ton of personal pics that I put in the Private section and I lock those up. Only I have those PW's

Fokti has an option to turn off right clicking so people won't be able to save your pics onto their comp. At the same time anybody who has that screen capture thing can still take a photo of the entire screen including your pic so that somewhat helps but wouldn't stop anybody who is really determined. Also, you can make fokti track the ip addresses of people that come to your page in case you do get any incidents.

I have seen some things that made me seriously consider locking my fokti for example somebody saw progress pics from this forum and posted them on another forum then the person whose pics were stolen got attacked and it got a little ugly. Also, I saw where I guess somebody lurking here got on somebody's fokti and posted mean comments in almost every folder. Utimately for me other people's foktis helped me so much during my hair journey so I am leaving mine open to give what little help I can to others (when my hair becomes nice enough for people to want theirs to look like it)

Wow, your right! I just tried it too! I didn't know that...

now i understand why people have their pw's in the profile... at least you cant view the profiles unless your a subscriber...

True and I knew this as well and my pw is in my siggy. For me I think a lurker who comes across this site is interested in hair care and that's ok if they see my fotki because I did the same thing when I was a lurker before I joined. So they are specifically searching for hair not necessarily typing in chicken wings or some general term and coming across it.

I thought you could only track the ip addresses of those who leave comments, but not of every visitor.... but i dont know... i'll have to check.

There have been threads about this in the past. If I'm not mistaken the last one got locked. But people have different reasons.

One of them being that their pictures were stolen (It happens. For example, it happened to KiniKakes and some one here recognized her pictures on another site and let her know.). Some people don't want their albums open to the public because anybody could view (some people have shirtless pictures, pictures in bras, etc.). Also, if your album is open, it can show up in search engines just like any post in the hair section of the board can. Or if somebody posts your link somewhere else online, anybody who sees that link can have access to it. Some people feel better knowing that only people from this site have access to their pw and can view the pics versus all of fotki.com or yahoo, etc. And some people keep fotkis for their personal growth record and only give the link and pw to certain people.

No they're not. Anybody can see a siggy. They can pop up in search engines pictures on display and all. Only paid members can see profiles.

Every blue moon I'll take the lock off and put in in my siggy. Then I'll clank it up again.
