Jesus did get gifts, didn't he?

I am trying to understand why people overlook that when talking about Christmas. Sometimes folks act like giving gifts at all is almost sinful. In my mind, I'm thinking but Jesus did get gifts. The wise men didn't show up empty-handed. Am I wrong for bringing this up to people?

i believe the wise men brought gifts

Matthew 2:11 (New King James Version)

11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Jesus did get gifts
the woman who bought and broke a bottle of costly perfume
and wiped his feet with her hair......

there are lots of verses in the Bible that advocate Christian giving
sanctioned of and by God

James 1:17 tells us: "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father...

Hey! Who's giving you a hard time about this? Ummmm, do they share the same disapproval when someone gives them a gift?

Just kidding....somewhat

Yes, Jesus did indeed have gifts bestowed upon him from birth to the grave, for even his grave was given unto Him (loaned), but a gift still.
The word of God says "borrowed" only because it was ''known" by the writer and by God and Jesus, that he would not remain there and He didn't.

Hence, you are correct, our Lord was given and received gifts which were many.

I think what many object to is the 'commercialism' of Christmas which takes people off focus of the true meaning of this Season. People get into debt, caught up in the web of the Christmas Rush and maddness and even the depression.

This is where many lose focus and the reason so many refrain from and object to it. They are 'attacking' the merchandising of Christmas when the focus should be upon the worship of our Lord and Saviour, the real gift and reason for this season.

Happy Christmas to you and enjoy it and your gifts... :giveheart:

Thanks and same to you!!

I understand the commercialism aspect but some use that as an excuse when they could give simple gifts but choose not to. These same folks will spend bucks on eating out but not to buy something simply. But most are not like that. That I understand.

Joyous blessings to you, Shimmie. :)

Isn't giving ...a choice?
true giving & receiving comes from the heart ..
giving can be giving of one's self
talent..time...etc

Christmas is actually a pagan holiday and the Christians of old did not celebrate it. Christmas is the celebration of the sUn god as stated here and here.

Jesus was most like born in the spring time since this is the time when lambs are born and as you know He is the Lamb of God. For most click here

 Hi MonaRae :giveheart: :bighug: Long time... Miss you.

True points...:yep: Actually, according the the calcultions of the original calendar (and Jewish calendar calcultions), Jesus was born sometime in the Fall (September). :yep:

Whether Christians celebrate or not, the true reason for both (decisions) is honoring the birth of our Lord, the greatest gift of all. For God so loved the world that He gave (GAVE ..... 'Gifted') His only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.

I among so many others look forward to this time of year, to share in the gift of whom God gave to us. While we celebrate Jesus all year long, we still love this time, to have a heightened celebration of Him.

We all have a birthday, which celebrates the day we were born.... Jesus has a birthday too; and while the exact day, and hour has not been known (recorded) to us, it matters not. We just respect how each of us views this time whether we celebrate or not. For we still love, honor and cherish the same Lord... our Gift from God our Father in Heaven.

I'm edited my prior comment because it was judgmental and I apologize
I don't want to do that..

I suppose giving has different meanings..for people
I look to the Bible for clarity ..

I've always been in charge of 'Hospitality' at home, Church and at work, and I know from my own personal experience when we were trying to organize a 'gift' exchange, there would be those who did not wish to participate who would fall back on the 'true meaning of Christimas' theory, rather than just say they didn't wish to participate. No one is obligated, but I've had to encounter so many 'opinions' on the matter. :spinning:

I truly believe that this may be the case. Some family members choose to be 'challenging'. :yep: Yet they can be the first ones to complain when they are left out of the participation.

envybeauty is a sweetheart... :yep:

So, I think it's folks who are being a little stubborn with family plans, that's all. Or it could be the gift committee in Church who's trying to plan a gift for their Pastor. Either way, hence I believe is the reason for her comment in just buying a 'simple gift', instead of them being difficult.

envybeauty has a good heart. :yep:
