Anybody Here Actually 'Enjoying' Their Long Hair?

Ok, this question isn't for those ladies trying to nurse their damaged or otherwise unhealthy strands back to life again (like me, with my hyperthyroid issue). For other ladies though, it seems as if their hair is long, thick, undamaged, and relatively healthy (at least from the pics & their comments)...and yet, they don't seem to be enjoying their long hair.

Do these ladies also 'tense up' if the man in their life reaches over to run his fingers through their hair, even though we all know long tresses are a magnet for most men? Do these ladies beg off certain 'bedroom' positions or activities, afraid it will muss their hair or nightly do? Is there a point in time where they see themselves wearing their long hair down on a daily basis vs. just as a 'treat' on special occasions only? Is there ever a point where you've 'arrived' in your hair journey, and can actually enjoy your hair vs. always being on a journey to get to where you want to be with your hair? Just curious as to if there is ever an end to the constant vigilance most of us here give our hair...OR is this our new way of living...forever? :perplexed

well... although my hair takes longer to detangle now, and its needs are changing, i'm enjoying my hair to the fullest! but then, that was my whole point in going natural. i don't want to stress over my hair anymore. sure i do a lot of things to take care of it and maintain it, but not to the point where it runs my life IYKWIM.

*i suppose some people would say since i don't press my hair straight that often that i'm not "enjoying" my hair's length. that doesn't bother me either. i love being surprised at my hair's length when i do straighten. and i love my hair's natural texture the rest of the time. :yep:

Sure, I'm enjoying my hair, especially since this is the longest it's ever been!! Now granted, I may not wear my hair pressed out all the time anymore like I did in the past, or I may not curl it every week, but because of this board, I found cute protective styles to get me through the week w/out having to feel like my hair is a bore anymore. I press it or curl it when I want to, but not because it's a task. I use heat sparingly now b/c I know that it can be drying and damaging to the hair. So, I've kind found a balance in between enjoying my hair and taking care of it. My hair is not my life, but I do have a goal that I'm trying to reach, so I balance achievement with enjoyment, if that makes sense.

:lachen: I'm not there yet and I can imagine myself doing this already! I hope not! Since I joined LHCF, my boyfriend thinks I've becomed obsessed with my hair.

I'm in the same boat as ladylibra. My hair definitely takes longer to detangle, but even with all that, I am loving my long hair. I enjoy the versatility and all the cool options I have now. Making the time to is my biggest challenge, but I love the results when I do!

I'm thoroughly enjoying my hair:yep:. I may wear it up most of the time ( to protect it yes, also because it's really hot all year round where I live and hair sticking to my neck isn't fun) but I love when I wear it out, I enjoy deciding what I'm going to do with it next, what products I'll use at the next wash, whether I'll shampoo or co-wash, I love doing the dc and protein treatments and seeing the results, I enjoy protecting and moisturising it because I know why I'm doing it. My regimen is very simple compared to others I've seen. It may seem like a lot of work to some looking on but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm glad I learned to start taking care of my hair and I'm glad I am finally seeing progress. More importantly, I'm glad I have hair to take care of and enjoy.

I'm right around APL and I'm absolutely lovin' my hair. :love2: I wear it out every single day. It's my favorite accessory! Nothing completes an outfit (or distracts from a lazy one) like hair that matches your personal style.

I tie it up at night but not always. My pillowcase is satin so I'm cool with ...um.... whatever. :blush3:

I am enjoying my hair alot. I never did like anyone putting their hands in my hair from when I was young and especially in college. People with snagging finger nails, pulling on your hair to see if it real. Now my hubby knows I have a hair phobia, his mom was a hairdresser, so he understands. So one of things he does is get his nails done and is very gentle when he mess with my hair. As far as positions, he knows I am putting my hair up like I am going to bed, I don't like the pulled hair feeling with my hair almost BSL, it anoys me.

 I thought it was just me :giggle:

First off, let me say that you ladies' hair is gorgeous!!! I can't wait until my hair gets as long and beautiful as some of yours! Anyway, I was thinking about this same question recently. I am nowhere near my ultimate goal (MBL), but i think that when i get there I will finally "relax" a little bit. When I get to MBL I won't be too focused on growing my hair anymore, so I would probably wear it down more. I would definitely still adhere to a lot of the things that I have learned on this board so far, like daily moisturizing, weekly DCing, etc. But I think at that point I will like to enjoy my hair more than constantly worrying about growing it. The one thing that I think I will worry about when I get to MBL is jealous females. One of my biggest fears is someone either tryin to cut my hair or pull it out just because it's longer than theirs. :ohwell:

DITTO, my SO thinks I am nuts. I think as my hair appraoches apl I will begin wearing it down more often in braid/twistouts. I will also eleminate all heat which equals healthier hair for me.

Yep my boyfriend thinks I'm OBSESSED too :drunk:...and you know what he's right :lachen:

I think I will still enjoy my hair...I enjoy it now

I enjoy my hair but when I'm not doing anything I protect it. And I let my man run his fingers through my hair because he loves it.And so do I. I run my hair I don't let it run me. Sometimes hair can get in the way and sometimes it's to hot to wear hair down(it get hot and humid down here). It all depends on the circumstances.

Girl, I definitely enjoy mine !

I think what used to make me uncomfortable was all the product I used to put in it (oil, grease, etc.). People would comment on how pretty my hair was, but then they'd put their hands in it and be like, "Ewwww!"

I am no longer a product junkie. When it says use a dime size amount, I use a dime size amount, even when I flat iron. Thus, now I don't care if anyone puts their hands in my hair, because I know they won't pull back an oily mess!

Hmmm. Good question. I'm enjoying my healthier, denser hair I suppose. I like the fact of having longer hair. I like trying differnt techniques and products, I suppose.

But….there's not much of a difference on how I feel about or enjoy my hair now that's it's a bit longer again than when I had cut it up above my ears! Maybe I'm weird, but outside of wash days, I just don’t pay that much attention to it, prefering it cover it with a hair piece.

I've truly never like styling my hair. Ever! :ohwell::lachen:The less time I can spend styling, the better.

I DO!
I wear my hair down a lot. (Almost everyday.) I flat iron it about every other week. When it's raining or extra humid or just because I feel like it, I wear it curly. I'm probably a non-traditional member, but I feel like I have to enjoy it. It's not worth all the work it takes if I don't get to enjoy it.

Now when I'm around the house, it's always up in a ponytail or wrapped. I still baby my hair, but I also make sure to reap the benefits of all my labor!

I wear it down here and there, but like it up because its not in my face/food/etc.

I don't mind my SO messing with it. I hate when he rolls on it though (its like dang baby, don't scalp me!!)

Once I reach my hair goals I fully intend on wearing my hair down on a regular basis. I won't do it every day, but I will wear it down whenever I want and not just for special occasions.

The only way I'll wear my hair down during the "act" is if the following day is wash day or if I have a hair appointment. Shoooo, I'm natural...I can't be sweatin' my press out.:nono:

Right now I'm just enjoying nurturing my hair through this labor of love.:love3:

I enjoy my hair very much! Even with the challenges, I generally love taking care of it and I'm very grateful to have it. I wear it up most days, but that does not decrease my enjoyment of my hair. The longer it grows, the more I like it. :yep:

I'm starting to "enjoy" my hair because I can see major progress and growth!

I've reached the length where I can do low ponytails without straining to get all the ends. I can see and feel the length and thickness of my hair - so my feelings are becoming more "actual" versus "wishful"!

This is a great feeling! :yep:

Anyone relaxed AND 'enjoying' their hair?
Yes, yes, YES! :bdance:

I love and enjoy my long, healthy hair every single day! :yep: I "arrived" when my hair's health was restored and that's exactly where I wanted to be. Everything else is a big plus (length, new styles and techniques, thickness) and my hair brings me a lot of joy. I appreciate my hair and all I have learned here at LHCF. :)

oh as far as SO and the hair... he touches it all the time when i wear it out. and my son loves to play with my hair when it's out. i don't care. neither of them are rough with it. even when SO messes it all up during the deed... :lachen: but a little water can fix that! i suppose if i were getting it pressed or something, then yeah bedroom activities would cause me to sweat it out. :drunk:

All right, now I'm starting to feel like the odd one out. :look:

Outside of wash days (when I turn into a mad hair scientist, microscope and all   ) I'm pretty blasé about my hair.

Yeah, I actually have a microscope to check out my hair shaft. A red one at that. You can laugh. It's okay. LOL

Personally speaking, I find it very illogical to spend time and money that could be diverted elsewhere into growing out hair if you're never going to enjoy it. I could spend the time reading a book or hanging out with my fam and friends and I could spend the money on yummy food or makeup
I'd rather have funky and fabulous short hair, then long hair I can't enjoy.

I do tense up slightly in certain situation if my hair is down, but that's because IMO relaxed hair, especially the 4a/4bs are very delicate. Overall I do enjoy it, I wear it down most of the time and I get to wear the same styles as someone who flat irons and styles their hair every day. I come up with little tricks to get my hair to look as if I styled it with a curling or flat iron. When I'm alone or it's windy/cold outside I pin it up. I always walk with pins for this reason. As soon as I get home, I pin it up, as soon as I close the door at work I pin it up (I can't work with hair in my face). I figure the pinning up, however sporadic, should amount to like 2 days of protective styling  I also try to wear my hair up once or twice a week so I'm still working on cute protective styles, so far swoop bangs are really helping. IMO, sealing your ends with a protein enhanced leave in is a good way to insure they'll be protected when you wear your hair down. I use Salerm 21 or Tigi's ego boost.

I'm wearing my hair down right now and thanks to Pantene's hair mask I look like a Pantene hair model, which is not any easy thing for me to achieve at home.

I too enjoy my hair. I didn't before a few years ago, but now if I want to wear it down, I do. I'll wear it down especially after I wash my hair and do a rollerset.

I enjoy mine too. I have always loved to wear it up and experiment with accessories. But when I want to wear it down I do. When I want to wear it curly I do. Other than not handling it roughly, I don't really think about it very much outside of washing it.

I'm relaxed and enjoying my hair. I tend to wear it up at work but not for protective purposes (unless it's winter and I'm wearing a wool sweater) but just because it can get in the way sometimes and I feel more professional with my hair up. But on the weekends, at home, out to dinner, dancing, etc my hair is ALWAYS down. I usually make it big and curly for special occasions but I love for people to see my length, I'm proud of it and I want to enjoy it....but my SO has to wash his hands before playing in my hair. :look:
