It's been a 5 weeks and my test strand is doing very very well. If it keeps up at this pace it will replace my beloved Phyto. :yep:

It's been almost 3 months. The SE treated hair is doing great! My next relaxer is in 2 weeks. I'm using SE lye mild. I'll add keratin, silk, and oil to it as usual. Since the last test was too straight, I'm testing again with SE mild. I also won't be using any growth aids until post-relaxer.

So I did! I did my entire touch-up with SE mild lye. It got a little hot, not burning, but it was more sensation than I've felt in a long time. I did a strand test and figured out that a ratio of 7 parts relaxer to 1 part oil worked best. I left it on for 7 minutes but decided to I wanted it a little straighter so I relaxed it for 10 minutes total.

After rinsing the back (I stagger my application/rinsing) I sorta panicked because it looked too straight. I quickly rinsed EVERYTHING. That means it was on for 10 minutes in back and 8 minutes in front. I panicked for no good reason. It was fine in the back when it dried. The front is slightly more textured but I like it more textured around the hairline.

All it all I love it. It's very silky and very shiny. You can't really tell from the pictures but the SE hair is much shinier than the rest.

Sareca I glad you love the results of SE...I too would love to try this relaxer but the reason why I love Phyto in the first place is that it gets my 4b hair relaxed straight w/out burning.. I self relax and been using it for 4 years and have never experienced any burning.. I'm afraid once I switch up my hair will start breaking and my scalp will begin to burn again..Anyway, SE cost less and if it works for you then it's a good buy.. Anyway, Congrats on your successful switch.....

:update:

The front half (that I panicked and rinsed too soon) reverted way too much. I did a corrective 3 days later. It's perfect now. I can see why people like SE for texlaxing but maybe not relaxing straight. It looked the way I wanted for the first couple days then I woke up one morning and it looked like I hadn't relaxed it at all.

I'm glad that you had success with the SE. Are you experiencing any breakage where the SE meets the Phyto? Does the hair feel different where the different chemicals are? What about curl definition?

I haven't tex'd my hair since 2005 but have been considering returning to it with Phyto 1 for the summer. After reading your post, I went to Sally's to check out the ingredients in SE & they look good so I am now considering SE. TIA.

No breakage from the DL. No breakage at all actually. I can feel the difference between the strands that are Phyto and those that are SE.
The SE (for lack of a better term) feels silker than the Phyto hair.

I have better curl definition with SE just because it reverts so much. Phyto is what it is meaning, the day you relaxer your hair is exactly what it will look like 6 months from now. That's is NOT true with SE. I did a corrective (my first ever) because 3 days after underprocessing it didn't look like I'd done nothing at all.

Anyway, 4 months later and two touchups later, I'm still happy I made the switch.

I've been using SE Mild for the last year and I never exprienced reversion except the one time I added Wella Keratin Oil to it. I've heard others state that they experienced reversion, but I think they may have been using too much protein on relaxer day. It is truly a great relaxer...glad you found it!

Really? Maybe I'll use a tad less oil next time. I want it to revert a little. :yep:

It's time for my next touch-up! This will be my 3rd touch-up with SE. :yay:
I think it's a keeper. I'm gonna add just a splash of oil this time.

ETA: Actually this was my second touch-up with SE (the first one was a test)

I just did my 2nd touch-up. I used less oil and it was great! I'm VERY happy with results.
I will be using SE Lye Regular for touch-up from now on. :yep:

Dry hair...

Wet hair (that was dyed with Bigen in Black-Brown).

The results have been terribly consistent! I can't even find where one touch-up meets another one.

My last version (that was just about right) was:

1/2 small tub
2 tbs of oil
1 capful of SAA
1 capful of keratin

10 minutes of processing.

I'm gonna repeat the same process but move to 12-13 minutes next time.
