FOTKI KILLED MY COMPUTER!

Does this mean if you have a Mac it's safe to go on fotki? I've got a Mac, but since this thread started, I've been avoiding fotki like the plague. Does anyone know?

yah, youll be fine. I can't say the same for Windows users. I think Fotki is hard up for money, it was the reason they limited space and started charging. They're probably accepting money from po dunk companies peddling their virus ridden ads on their site/server. :nono:

I barely go on fotki but yesterday at work I was checking someone's and the security suite popped on the computer running scans. My big problem is that I did this on my work computer and they are having problems removing it. I might be in big trouble but I'm not saying anything unless asked:nono:

I have malware bytes, anti mal ware, super anti spyware, Nothing caught it. I had to remove it. My system is up to date and everything.

Keyloggers are scary business. Someone is sitting there watching and recording your credit card information and passwords you type. I just ordered my credit report I hope they did not do any damage there.

I dont even have a fotki I just always frequent there to drool over you ladies hair lol.
Please post somewhere else so i can continue to stalk your tresses!

Im really considering purchasing a MAC now, since they seem to get viruses less.

Yikes! I got an email saying I had new guestbook comments in Fotki last night, good thing I didn't go and check. :look: I think I'll just let my Fotki subscription die now.

How ironic that I would go on Fotki this past Monday and I NEVER visit Fotki (I think it was a recent thread where a bunch of fotki's of long haired 4b ladies were featured) and not only that but create a Fotki 'favorite' folder on my laptop. And not only that times two but to access a Fotki while at the j-o-b!

Fortunately, I haven't had any computer issues. We have Symantec Endpoint Protection at w-o-r-k and I have Norton Antivirus at home. Oy vey! I am done with all unidentifiable links posted here period let alone Fotki. I have enough problems, sheesh...

I use AVG to block Fotki's malware...so far, so good.

AVG is really good. I picked up my copy from cnet (download.com). It was freaking out almost every time I clicked on a fotki link. Just stops everything. I feel pretty well protected.

I still haven't been back there in months because, as confident as I am with AVG, I know it's not perfect.

For example, the newest version disables Windows Defender. From what I understand, it's not wise to have more than one anti-spyware program running at the same time so the AVG wins.

Ya know, yesterday while at home I attempted to look at a member's fotki page and my little Norton antivirus box popped up saying that it blocked a potential virus that was trying to attack my computer!

The only page that I had pulled up with this site----and fotki!

I'm going to leave that site alone. I created a page a long time ago, but I'm glad that I never uploaded pics... :nono:

I was infected last year with something and had to call Dell to get it off. I'm not trying to go through that again!

OMGosh! Thanks for this post, I've been going mad trying to figure out what the h#!! was wrong with my computer, and having read this, I think the last time it was working I was stalking someones fotki! I'm so heated about this right now, the virus/malware/whatever, has KILLLED my desktop, and deleted all my restore points so I can't even do a system restore. I'm so glad I read this before I logged in from my laptop.

I can't run my virus protection software, anyone figure out how to clean off whatever the ailment is?

When you do a system restore, does it delete any files? I've had my PC for almost two years....
How do you do it? ...

I pray this doesn't get you into trouble.

Thanks favoured. Luckily it did not get me into trouble. However, when I logged on this morning, I had Adult.com and Porno.com popups everywhere. The IT guy came over earlier this morning and thank God he was very lighthearted about everything.

Another thing, I frequent the Entertainment forum a lot, when I click a link that has been posted, sometimes a box will appear saying "internet explorer has stopped working" then one of the browsers i have open closes(sometimes all)....I'm not sure if I want to click any link from the hair boards visit :(

Food/Joke for thought! My DH who hates that I am a certified hair porn freak just made a funny comment that made me laugh. He said that a man must've put a virus on Fotki, because he is tired of his "old lady" on the site visiting hair albums. hahaha

Gezz I didnt know fotki was screwing up this badly!
The owner(s) of fotki should be held accountable in some way or fashion cause this is ridiculous.

I just research and ask today about this and I'm good. Shut down your system and when you reboot don't let it come on completely, hold down the F8 button until it comes on it, you should get the option to in safe mode. I just picked safe mode, then I went to my computer and scan, uploaded Norton and now it's cleaning up. Hope this works!

Sometimes viruses/trojans will write themselves to your system restore drive (or partition) and reside there. That's why when some people do a SR, the same problem reoccurs.

Keep a close watch.

I don't visit fotki anymore, but once I had a problem with a virus that wouldn't let me use the internet. It kept pulling up windows saying my computer was infected and go here to buy software.

I created two new user ids and made them both 'Admin' (one for me to use, the other extra, just in case). Then I logged off and deleted that whole user id that was infected. I also loaded an antivirus software on the new windows id I created. It's been working fine and I haven't had any problems since. :yep: I don't know if this will help anyone, but this is what I did. I could start over easily b/c I keep copies of my important files elsewhere.

No, it shouldn't. The files should all still be there. Only recently installed programs (like the bad stuff that recently just jumped on your computer) will be deleted. But if you installed a legitimate program and in Restore you choose a date that was before you installed it, it might get uninstalled.

this happend to one of the PC's in my house about a month ago...it was like 100s of them and some were for viagra and other sex related popups...i thought it was something my little bro or sister did, but now that i think about it, it was probably fotki...you couldnt even get to system restore because it wouldnt let you open any programs...luckily my dad is a system LAN administrator so he took care of it but he basically had to wipe out the hard drive and start from scratch
