Why do people black out their faces?

I know it's a hair board and about the hair. But to me those pics should only be of the back of your head. What are people doing with people's faces..lol.. so I can know to black out mine too... if need be. And the stealing of the pics from fotki..why does everyone have that under the pic..do not steal my pics? Just want to know..what do these people do with pictures of other folks hair.. I mean I guess if this was a board I was ashamed to be on .. I would black out my face.. but shoot anybody and their mama can know I'm trying to grow me some hair!

Just want to know the rationales...

whoops i read the OP wrong. i block my face because i dont want people to see my face.So many people lurk and stuff on this site and others I would feel uncomfortable showing my back fat, bra, the inside of my house etc to the public and my face to go along with that. I think its enough that i show detailed pictures of my hair progress I dont see any point of showing my face as well. can i get some privacy please?!

I always thought this was pretty obvious.

This is the internet.

There is this thing called privacy. Oh and lets not forget about discretion.

Not everyone wants their face to be out there. We have careers and community activites and some would prefer that their personal care activities remain, uh - personal.

Not everyone feels like getting all pretty and made up just to show pics of what we want to see - hair.

Not everyone wants their pictures popping up on other sites without their permisson. This has happened. There is a reason why Fotki even gives the option to put a message like that under your pics.

I only show the back of my head anyway but sometimes if I wanted to show the front of a style I have covered my face just because I am a private person and I don't want my business all over the internet. With identity theft and everything you really don't know. Someone might find a picture and photoshop it and make a fake ID.

I personally do not want any pictures up of me online so crazy ex's, frenimies, whatever can see my business. I want to remain as anonymous as possible but that's just me.

I've never had my picture stolen but imagine if someone took your picture and posted it on another site claiming it was them or they took it and posted it on some hair fetish site for all perverts to see. I would be highly upset if people just take my image and do whatever they want with it.

sometimes i black mine out if i'm really lookin a super HAM. i do understand some folk wanna be private though, cause of the haters and whatnot, but to me, its just hair. i wouldn't care to get called out IRL like "that's ole girl w/ that messed up hair pic!" if that's the case, i wouldnt post a messed up hair pic.

shoot, i'm showin my face. i wanna be asked if i'm niko's cousin, so ya'll need to know what i look like!:lachen:

I don't block out my face and probably never will. I think some people are too worked up over this topic. As long it doesn't affect me directly I could care less about who uses my pictures on the internet. That's just how I feel. I've never seen my pics misused either. I also have makeup pictures in my fotki, so it really wouldn't make sense to not show my face if I'm trying to showcase my makeup.

I understand why people would want to block out there face, but I'm a member of other sites that show my face, so I'm not that big about hiding my face. Maybe when my hair gets ultra long I will start hiding it in order to prevent it from popping up on sites that promote things like *gasp* luster's pink oil moisturizer :lachen: (sorry if I offended anyone that uses luster's. It may work for some but it left my hair feeling ultra-dry :nono:).

I don't think I want to go through the trouble of blocking out my face, but I did lock my fotki and remove the link from my profile. I find that as I move around in my career, I am meeting more and more people. I started working for a MUCH larger corporation and I just don't want them to know me - not like that anyway. Some may be lurkers or just happen upon my photos while searching for something, which is how I first found out about the black haircare communities myself.

I would rather my personal life remain anonymous at work and you really never know who sees your pictures. It is not that there is anything bad or wrong with my photos and I am quite proud of my hair and my dedication to it, but that is something that I would like to keep in MY world. No one else needs to be in my biz like that.

There are more chances that you think for people to be in your business.

Some people would just like to remain anonymous. You never know who is looking at this board. The hair board is open to the public and posts as well as pictures (signatures and avatars) show up in search engines.

It's not so much hair as it is the Offtopic, Political, and Entertainment Board. Sometimes 'not-so-popular' opinions are expressed and you never know whose sitting on the other side of that keyboard. It may be someone you have to do business with one day. It may be someone who has to interview you, etc. You just never really know.

If you're a person who doesn't visit that side of the forum then it may not be that big of a deal. But, at times, I know my opinions aren't necessarily in line with the 'mainstream' and I know some folks get offended by my thoughts. I never know whose sitting at the other side of the computer and how that may affect me IRL.

I just don't understand when they just block out their eyes. Like, oh really? If you're afraid of people recognizing you, that's not gonna cut it.

I can PROMISE you if you showed me a pic of my mother with the eyes cut out, I'd still know it was her. This isn't a Batman comic book where you can put on an eye mask and noone will recognize you anymore.

I don't show pics of myself at all.

However, as far as why people block out their face and have disclaimers about stealing pics I agree with what other people have said. Also, I am a member of another site. I remember a few years ago that several people's pictures wound up on pornographic sites and a racist spoof site. If you don't care about that, then fine, but many people do care.

:lachen::lachen:

Let me go memorize your face so I can ask you that if I see you.

I understand why some ladies black out their faces, but I don't mind showing mine.....for the time being. As soon as anything happens I'll be changing my tune though.

Someone took mine and used it in a white supremacist video to show in what ways black people were ugly. It was both shocking and absurd, since I'm so fine! :lachen: So I can understand why people would not want their faces up. Don't stop me, though, but I understand.

Nine times out of 10 if you are a good friend of mine or family member, I will know its you anyway. That goes for front and back poses with or without black/whiteouts. Sometimes I think, why put a pic up at all if you're going to black/whiteout your face. I certainly could do without looking at the Casper circle and for some reason I respond better to people without that stuff.

Wow :nono:.

if the HAIR BOARD was private (meaning only the paid members could view the board)....i would show my face in more pics. the longer i'm here....the less i care about showing my face tho. its a process lol

Are you serious, that is so crazy!!! I never thought of anything that extreme happening I was only thinking of the privacy issue. With that being said I will continue to block my face on the internet.

privacy, basically. If you look at the number of people who read a thread, it's thousands and thousands of viewers & you would be shocked what people do with other people's pics.

I have a friend with a large chest who's pic was stolen off of facebook & put on a porn website. (she was fully clothed w/ only a little cleavage showing) Once someone steals your pics, there is basically nothing you can do about it, either. I've deleted tons of my info off of fb, deleted my myspace page, and I am only going to do mostly pictures from the back on hair boards.

Hmm, I guess I never had anything like that happen to me. But then people who block out their faces probably wouldn't have fb or myspace pages right?

I smudge out as much of my face as I can because I simply don't like how I look in pictures. Every once in awhile I will take a pic that includes my face that I actually like but that's far and few between. Besides this is a hair board, all I want to see is hair so that's all I'm going to show! :ohwell:

I dont hide my face. I want to see how my bang area is growing, and I want to show others. I am also on facebook and myspace so I really have no reason to hide it on here. Ppl know that I am grwoing my hair, and if someone dumb wants to steal a pic and use it then they are just dumb as heck. And I am also trying to do the lil make-up thing soon so it really defeats the purpose.

Well i do it for privacy. I dont tell many people I'm on a hair site. Most of my hair pics are from the back. I rather take the pics from the back rather than block out a part of my face.

well people can adjust the privacy setting on fb and myspace so that only friends...or people WHO THEY WANT to see can see them....here its not the same. If i put my face in my siggy or avatar....its public property now

prolly to stay hidden no one in there biz n all that jazz what i dont get is how peepz can hide their face but got they chile face all up front :lachen::lachen: oh wellz

If and when I do put up a picture I will hide my face for the same reasons I hide my Facebook and Myspace profiles:

1) Privacy - I'm about to be an attorney and the last thing I need is for anyone to gain any type of leverage on me based on something stupid I said online :look:

2) Safety - there's crazy people all over the place, including possibly lurking on this forum and you never know if Mr or Ms. phsycho lives in your hood. Semi-paranoid? yes, but true! :lachen:
