How much do you spend on your hair per year?

I just got the most perfect, simplified regimen together! It's not so simple as to leave out anything that benefits my hair, but it's not as extensive to have me spending too much money on products. :)

I figured that I'll spend around $441.25 dollars per year on my hair with this regimen. Not bad! that's only around $38 per month!

We all know that black women spend twice as much money on hair care and hair care products than our "lighter" counterparts  I believe that our lhcf women may even spend more than average.

I'm interested to know just how much we are spending.

Who knows, sponsers may even see this poll and decide to give lhcf a little more attention :)

It is a tedious task, but I beleive that it's a good thing to do, just to make sure that you stay within a budget. You may be shocked at how much you actually spend.

Include things like hair products, hair tools and visits to the hairdresser.

Also, if you're not American, would it be possible to convert your currency to American dollars?

I know, I'm asking a bit much! :ohwell:

I was a PJ for a whole year, '04! Last year I would say I spent about $650 experimenting! I bought appliances too, so that's how it easily got up to that amount! This year and on out, I plan on spending alot less now that I have my staples!!!:yay:
I had to edit to change the price, sadly the $650 is more accurate! But with my new regimen, I will be spending around $300 per year! Staples save the day!

I don't even know why I put 301 to 600 dollars because I know I spent more than that this year alone. I have had two weaves done, braids done three times this year, and not including all the products I have gotten this year. ::sigh:: All of that money and I could have gotten a whole new wardrobe.

I know, Girl! I could have bought a coat or small designer handbag!

Progress...not perfection
In the past, when I was relaxed, it was nothing for me to go to sally's or another bss and spend 75.00-100.00 or more EVERY or almost every pay day. (Twice monthly) Not to mention salon visits to get it cut or when I was making good money and going weekly. Now, I just have to control my PJism. Cutting back on parabens has helped no since almost all products have parabens in the bss, HOWEVER I've just discovered my city's wild oat and whole food stores so I'm sure I will soon usher in a whole new level of PJism. I'm really trying not to tho. I really like the AO conditoners tho. If I could find a creamy natural shampoo with lots of slip I'd be like really really happy. (HINT) :) I enjoyed taking care of my relaxed hair. I LOVED doing conditioning treatments and things that left it soft and feeling good. I just havent gotten into my natural hair groove, and I also havent been doing things like the weekly condtioning with heat caps and stuff. (I read it makes your hair shrink more so I shied away.) As it is getting longer it is getting easier to take care of tho.

Ok so I did the math- when i used to get my hair done every week at the DOminicans and my hair relaxed every 2 months- I spent on average 3000 a year

Now that I do my hair myself and only go to the salon for perms ( and including the amount I spend on products) I only spent 1200 a year.

What a difference! Now that Sunday morning rollerset doesnt seem that back. :)

This is why the hair company's market all their products to ethnic people separate from the white products to keep you thinking there is a difference. Look inside a shopping cart of the customers you will find more in the black womans cart.

Now I done spend as much. The only thing that costs alot is when I get my hair professionally done (braids). But I do them mysel fnow. I have to cut back on my spending.... I checked between 300-600 seeing as my shampoo (prescription) is $79 a bottle :(

I think right now I probably spend around 600 a yr, b/c I get perms done by my cuz for free. I have done ok on curbing PJism (with the exception of cleaning out Target NTM serums), but I am working on it.

I spend about $150-200 at the most because I do my own relaxers-I never go to the salon for anything...I do my haircare at home...and the products I use are relatively inexpensive (Motions, Mane 'N Tail, NTM)...plus I try to buy giant jars of conditioners so that they don't run out quickly...I actually SAVE more that way. And when there's a sale like at Target where the NTM was dirt cheap, I stock up because I use them all the time. I also scout Ebay for NTM coupons...last time I bought (10) $1.00 off coupons for $1.83.

I selected $601-900. It's probably going to be about $700-$750 for this year. I just started on my journey and all I had was a deadly curling iron and some old Tresseme shampoo and conditioner:lachen: . I had to get EVERYTHING. I spend about $35 per paycheck, every 2 weeks (the BSS is down the block from my job....:ohwell: I can't stay outta there!) Hopfully now that I have my regime pretty nailed down, I can calm down on the spending....hopefully

I estimate $300 by the time the year ends.....But next year it will drop to $200 hopefully. Since suave works the best out of any of them lol.

Same, here! :yep:

I've never calculated how much I spend on products, but, I know that it's not very much. I buy items when they're on sale. I've found what works for my hair and it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

Alot of people take certain vitamins - just for hair growth so that cost should be included as well.

I put between $301-$600 because by the end of the year I would have gotten three professional relaxers and earlier this year I was on the tailend of my pjism.

Next year I won't need to buy as many products as I did when I was starting out because I've still got tons of the stuff. I'll get about five relaxers (every 10 weeks) next year. Throw in one professional braid style during the year and it should stay at about $600.

I voted $901 - $1501. It was a guess...but think I was spending more than $1K so I voted for that.

I would have to say $901 to 1501 because I take Viviscal which is not cheap by any means.
I find most of my hair products on sale and trade with my hairbuddies so this helps somewhat with my PJism.
I have enough products to last for 2 years without making any new purchases.

Whoa. That's a lot of product :)

To tell the truth, I wish that I had that right about now. I'm tired of going to all the different bss and drugstores to get the products I use. I wish they would just sell them in ONE store.

I put myself in the $901-$1,500. I did a lot of experimenting this year also, since I joined the board in December 2004. I had a lot of bad habits I had to be broken of.

I voted $601-$900 which is a MAJOR improvement for me. Last year, I spent right around $3500 on hair care. Luckily, that's a tax write off for me, but still, that's some insane amount of money to be spendin on HAIR. Since I stopped goin to the shop for anything except a relaxer I've saved sooooo much money b/c a simple shampoo/style was runnin me $60 EVERY week. I had no idea how excessive that was until I sat down and did the math and thought how much HEALTHIER my hair is when I do it myself. Plus I'm able to experiment a lot more and spend way more money on products when I'm not forkin it over to the stylist every week.

I'm an entertainer & my taxes are done by an entertainment accounting specialist so I'm filed as a "performer." It's considered an expense b/c my hygienal upkeep & products are necessary for "performance."

I spend an average of $150 - $200 per year on my hair. My products cost more than before LHCF but they last longer.
