Dang, I never thought I'd come to a long hair board, grow long hair, meet others who love and want long hair then be told it WL hair looks like a stripper or a porn star:perplexed.

I'm kinda shocked but it's all good because I dont think I look like that and I don't carry myself that way.

Girl, you don't look like a stripper. Far from it. :) I'm lovin the curls, and have enjoyed watching your progress during my time here at LHCF. Just keep it growing until you reach your goals.

My answer to this question changes every time Ive reached a goal, I remember saying that WL was too long when I was at BSL. Now Im waist length and it really is not much of a difference for me as far as time and maintenance. I would imagine that hip length would be a bit much to take care of but you never know until you get there.

Right now, I am enjoying full brastap length. I didn't vote because at this point, I don't know what length will be too long for me. When (and if) it happens, I'll just cut it off to a preferred length.

Yeah, I was like :perplexed, too. But anyway...

I'm already at waist length and still looking forward to longer hair, so obviously WL is not too long for me. I think I would be VERY happy with my hair being classic length when wet or stretched. With shrinkage, that would make my hair somewhere around tailbone length when dry...maybe. That shrinkage is something else. If I ever find my hair is at a length that is too hard to handle, I'll just cut it back to a length that is more comfortable for me.

Hair is like everything else.
You have the moderatism and the extremism.
We all want long hair or else we wouldn't be on
Long Hair Care Forum.
But now after this poll... I see the difference ever so clearly.
There's long and there's extremely long
Some people just have no earthly desire to have hair past BSL
for whatever reasons... to each her own.
Funny how people get so defensive and take things
out of context, what do you care what I or anybody else thinks.I sure in the hell don't and if I did grow my hair HL or Mile Length
I'd be the FLYYEST "stripper bohemian librarian" you ever saw.
Ya'll need to lighten up... it's not that deep!!!

Hair is like everything else and as I mentioned in one of my post, everyone have their own style and will choose how much time, energy, money, etc. to devote to it. What you consider extreme may not be extreme for me. If I want to grow my hair as long as I can, floor lenght, whatever, how can that possible affect YOU? And the fact that you think it makes me look striperish or bohemian or whatever else don't mean a hill of beans to me. I'm not being defensive here, I'm simply stating a difference of opinion cuz I don't have nothing to defend. :nono: You started the poll and got some answers that apparently shocked you, and I quote you:
I just can't believe women REALISTICALLY want hair that long. Well, some of us do. So what? Indeed, what's so shocking about people having different goals, ideas, desires? I'm shocked you're shocked that people would differ with you!

Yes, we all want long hair on this forum, which is why it was surprising to me to see you say some of the stuff you did, and I quote "I was thinking the same thing...you could either look like a librarian/very homely & plain
or you could look like a porn star/stripper
I haven't seen anyone pull off the HL or longer
or even WL or longer
without looking one of these 2 ways...
I'd love to be proven wrong though.
" Wow, only TWO ways to look with HL or WL hair, both negative and one in particular down right insulting! Well, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. However, quite a few, including me, do not agree with that opinion and stated that fact. Again, that is not being defensive, it is expressing a difference of opinion from you.

I DON'T care what you think; however, since you chose to pose a question on this board, I feel quite comfortable stating my opinions and observations. Doesn't mean I gave a hoot what you think, but wanted to state my opinion, just like you.

I mentioned in the spinoff on this thread that no matter how long my hair is, no one, NO ONE, will eva mistake me for a stripper cuz I don't carry myself like that. It's not the hair, it's how you carry yourself.

There are some highly educated, smart, articulate, beautiful ladies on this board and we try to respect each other as we agree to disagree. :yep:

None of them have hair past HL.
Just a reminder of what you did say:

After looking at the WL and longer "Features of the Month" do you think they look like porn stars, homely, plain, etc.? Just curious...

Why are you asking this and why does what ST say matter? It's obvious that some people are getting offended by her opinion on hair that she considers too long. Her answering this question is just going to cause more friction especially since you're personalizing the question by targeting the "features of the month". Also, her opinion isn't that far fetched with respect to extremely long hair looking "homely" and "plain" . There are professionals and people that you encounter everyday that are into trends and style have that believe the same thing. I also see that opinion a lot on those makeover shows. Just like some people consider very short haircuts "masculine", there will be others that think extremely long hair as "homely" and "plain". It's her opinion; just let it go.

Why are you asking this
I asked this because ST did say "I'd love to be proven wrong though", but it is entirely up to her if she wants to answer or not. Trust me, I will not or even need to insist on a response.

I voted for hip length and beyond. That would be too long for me. I think WL is very long but I eventually awnt it just to say that I once had my hair that long and I didn't want my hair that long. Then I'll probably cut it to MBL or BSL.

ITA!! My goal is WL. I want to grow my hair to WL to prove to myself that i can do it. But ultimately i would cut it to MB or BS....most likely MB.

Ditto... and well said I might add.
I NEVER planned to share my opinion about anyone on LHCF.
Frank, honest, and BLUNT I am... rude and offensive I am not! :nono:

Anything past bsl/mbl is too long for me. Honestly, for me, I prefer style over anything when it comes to hair. All of my fav hairstyles are either apl/bsl/mbl and I LOVE layers and I think a fly layered cut would look fab with the lengths I mentioned. Anything beyond that wouldn't look on me especially since I'm short and I don't find layers really work on longer lengths. I don't doubt that I could grow hair longer than what I desire but it isn't what want. I don't see that as putting limits on what I can achieve especially if I (as well as others) know what would work for me. JMO.

Ditto on the choosing style over length for me too.
You were right some people are into what's fashionable
and chic CLEARLY I am one of those women. I love long hair but
not that long and apparently not that much.

I'm really into my hair NOW
but once I get to BSL I'm probably going to find something
new to obsess about... so for me I guess this is a phase
and obviously for others it's more of a longterm lifestyle thing.
It's like another level. Let me see if I can explain it in a very PC
way so I don't offend the sensitive people.
I am SHOCKED.
For me making this poll and seeing the results was like going
to a cupcake convention because I really like cupcakes and then
realizing that the people at the convention don't eat anything
other than cupcakes and don't ever want to eat anything other than cupcakes ... so I'm like "Wow... seriously?"... "I had no idea" and then
I get spooked and sneak out.

Maybe a silly analogy. Basically, I'm saying maybe
this level of MBL and beyond is a little TOO much FOR ME.
:help: :help:

((Slowly backs out... and then runs out of this thread 4EVER!))

I honestly dont think my hair will ever be too long for me. I cant wait till there comes a time when i have to consider that. I've been drooling over super long locks my whole life so when I fnally get to waistlength or longer i dont think i would be brave enough to cut it b/c i would be worried that it wouldnt grow back lol.

ITA............As much as I can get, I want it.

An even better analogy would be going to a bakery convention and finding out that some people like small cupcakes and some people like making cakes.

Then you would ask in a poll, "How much cake is too much for you?"

Some would say, "I like small cup cakes." Some would say, "I like small size round cakes about 6 inches in diameter." Some would say, "I like big round cakes." Then there would be some who like big size sheet cakes.

So then you would ask the person who likes big round cakes (waist length hair), "I mean, I know you fantasize about being a great cook or what not but do you seriously mean you wouldn't mind baking large cakes like that for the rest of your life?"

And then not just leave it at that but say, "I've never really seen a good-looking big cake. They usually have *insert generally perceived negative statement here*."

No, it is not that people are offended by her thinking their hair is too long but the way she stereotyped the looks of people with hair that is "too long."

You keep using the descriptions "homely and plain" but she said in her posts that you could end up looking one of three ways, Librarian, Bohemian, Porn star/stripper. The last two is what most people would find offensive.

You're right it is her opinion but she did ask for varying opinions.

It's her opinion; just let it go. - I guess this same thing could've been said for the op when people responded that they wanted WL hair. She didn't just leave it at that because it is a forum and that is what we do, express our opinions. But always remembering to keep in tactful without being overly offensive or brash.

No option for "never will be too long" so I didn't vote. Sometimes, you gotta be careful what you pray for cuz you just might get it, but I can't imagine my hair being "too long" It's like saying, I'm too healthy, or too beautiful, or too sexy. . . .Oy, I digress.

"Too long" hair is a problem I'm waiting to have . . . I mean would be easy to fix, just cut it

ITA; as someone who never had long hair as a child, I just can't say what length I would consider too long; I'm just letting it go to where I can get and then deal. :look:

I voted waistlength. I think my ultimate goal is midback. My hair is about 2 inches from brastrap and I'm having problems rolling the back (not that I'm complaining or anything:grin:) I think midback is enough hair for me:yep:

I voted hipbone. I'm getting close to waist length, and it really isn't that much longer than BSL to me. And like others have said, long hair is a style all its own. It gets so much easier the longer it gets.

I think the stereotypes thrown around on this thread are more suited to white women, personally. Ethnic women can wear longer lengths and still look normal, IMO. And since this is the long hair care forum, I don't see what's so shocking about some of us wanting really long hair, but whatever. To each her own!

I voted hip-length and beyond.

Maybe I'm just strange :look:, but I find my hair is easier to take care of when it's longer because I don't have to spend as much time styling it (and I can't stand styling my hair!) Really, I have much more trouble caring for short hair than longer hair.

When my hair's longer, I can just throw it in a pony tail or finger-comb it out and go! However, once it gets past the waist, it can be very annoying (sitting on it, getting caught on things, detangling and the like). Styling choices also become a bit more limited. But it does make for showstopping braids and up-dos! :yep:

I agree with this because the longer my hair gets the easier it is too style. I can put 5 or 6 caruso's in my hair and then wrap it and viola! I'm out the door. I could never do that before:grin:

Well I'm not sure because I am no where near yet, but I feel like beyond waist and hip bone length. I have always felt that hair would be easier to deal with the longer it gets because you can just wash, condition, bun it or put it in one long braid and call it a day. Now that I have better sense that may just be the White community that can get away with stuff like that, I don't know about long Black hair and maintenance yet and probably won't be sure until I get close enough to give my own personal perspective.

I agree. I think we look rather exotic with long hair.....not like librarian's and strippers and stuff.

There are so many wsl and longer styles out there that are faaaaar from boring.

My hair is hip length now and it's not "enough" for me.
since my hair is natural it is only around bra strap when I wear a pony tail for instance. I want my un-stretched hair to be down at my waist - then I will be satisfied :yep:

I know this is possible, and is not something just in the White community. My grandmother had classic length hair, and all she did was wash condition (moisturize), seal, and put it in a braided bun. Sometimes she would make two braids and wrap them aroung her head. I thought it was absoluteley beautiful. I was so proud of her for keeping her hair long when the norm was to cut it short. :D

Well I never thought I wanted waist or hip length hair but sweetcashew has given me a new goal. But what I consider waistlength seems to be hip length around here. I don't wear my pants half way between my breasts and my hips so I never considered that waistlength. I consider that mid back. So I guess my new goal is hip length. Anything past that is too long for me. So bring ooonn the card catalog and the stripper pole :lachen:

I'm shooting for APL so I can get it cut into long layers in the front. It's funny, APL and BSL are the same length on me. As well, my hair is SUPER dense (I'm 5'9 with a VERY short torso and long legs) Anything long than that would be too much for me.
