October 2007 Hits & Misses

Revisited HIT:

Carol's Daughter Hair Milk- Great moisturizer on my natural hair. I've been using it on my TWA at night before bed. If I lightly spritz my hair with water first, my hair would feel even softer after applying the Hair Milk.

This is one of the few CD products that I truly enjoyed!

Me no likey the Aveda Elixir either :nono:!!!!!

:ohwell: Yeah, I didn't care for this. I have a damn-near full bottle going to waste. I used it a few times and it just did nothing for me. NOTHING. Same with the Brilliant USC. I just gave this to my mother and she LOVES it!!! Go figure.

Before you completely give up on that product try mixing it with some type of moisterizing conditioner.....my hair was the same kinda crispy with my beloved Garnier Fructis curl n' shine leave in.... adding some moisturizing conditioner made all the difference in the world. :yep:

Thanks, I'mma try dat.

Hits:

-Paul Mitchell Gloss Drops - Costs a billion dollars but I really love this stuff.
-Qhemet Alma & Olive Heavy Cream - Used it to baggy the other day, ends felt moist all day.
-Carusos - I'm finally getting better with these things!!! :yay: I think I was taking them out too soon and my hair would dry puffy cuz it wasn't all the way dry.
-Castor Oil - Works well in so many different ways. My staple for life!
-ORS Replenish (in the bottle) - My hair really loves this stuff. Great smell, great slip, great moisture. Awesome.

Man this was super long!!!
I laughed so hard at your bold!

Why I can't get the castor oil to work for me. It's so thick that I think......what:perplexed. How are you using yours Kels?

With the Castor Oil, you have to do some extra rubbing in your palms to make it more easily spreadable.

If I use Castor Oil/Conditioner for a prepoo treatment, I don't spend as much time making sure that the Castor Oil is spreadable. I just evenly distribute it through my palms (by rubbing) and apply it over the conditioner. It feels sticky/tacky when doing it that way though.

For my wash 'n gos, I squirt a little Castor Oil in my hand and rub my palms together for several seconds so that I can "melt" the oil a little and make it more easily spread. If your hands are damp, it helps with the spreadability. After rubbing my palms together, I just rub my hair with it (which would be already wet and w/ a leave-in) and it doesn't feel sticky/tacky in my hair at all. I was surprised at how it seemed to almost just glide on. So far it seems to be helping with my daily moisture issue by locking in the moisture.

Tee!!!!! :D I agree w/ TSU, you have to rub it in your hands. And you need less than you think you need. I'm gonna try to explain what I do, bear with me...

I take the open bottle of castor oil and turn it upside down with my hand covering the opening. I let it stay upside down for like 3 seconds. Then flip it back over. Whatever residue is left on my hands, I rub my hands together well then rub them thru my hair. :yep: I hope that made sense... You have much more hair than me so you may need a bit more.. but this is usually all I need to seal my moisturizer.

Hey that's a good idea!!! When trying to pour castor oil from that big bottle, I would always end up getting too much or spilling some down the sides, so I had to put it into another smaller bottle that squirts when you squeeze and flip it open.

Revisited HIT

Jane Carter Nourish & Shine - it has been warm and stuffy in my area and it has made my Jane Carter nice and soft and spreadable lately. I have been tapping my ends with it and they love it!!
:yep:

Hit: I found a great hair pomade....and it smells soooooooooo good and it kept my hair so soft. I just purchased it from TJMaxx for $4.99. I'm going back tomorrow to purchase the shampoo and the conditioner. If they do my hair like the hair pomade did, I think I have a winner.

Here is the product's info:

http://www.thenaturalsource.com/Prod...ircare/shaper/

:look: I saw this at TJ Maxx and I wanted to get the leave in spray. I carried it around for 15 minutes before putting it back. I am trying not to get anything new :)rolleyes:). Let us know how you like the poo and conditioner!

HIT:

-http://ariva.com/grwesirethth.html Graham Webb Silk Repair Thermacore Therapy Advanced Recovery Treatment. When I put it on my wet hair, it felt weird for like 2 seconds, then felt REALLY good! I put some saran wrap on (I'm out of baggies) and went under the heat cap for 20 mins. My hair feels super strong and silky and not hard at all. I have seen no breakage so far. I wish it came in like a bottle or something tho. I dunno about spending $5 on a one time use thing. :nono:

-Aubrey Honeysuckle & Rose w/ Alma Oil - After I rinsed the above product, I followed it up w/ this (I really didn't WANT to but I figured I'd better follow it up w/ some moisture). I have never mixed the AO w/ anything before. But I used some Alma Oil and wow! My hair felt awesome.. like buttah. Even after airdrying, it feels great!

-DC'ing in 15 min. intervals - I applied the AO/Alma mix to my whole head for 15, then added more to my damaged spots for 15, then added more to my ends for 15 mins. I think this is how I'm going to DC from now on. :yep:

Huge Hits:
  • Silicon Mix Conditioner: Maaan what took me so long to buy this?! I was totally sleeping on this lil' gem. When I first put it on my hair, it was so heavy that it felt like I was slathering on a relaxer. I had to check the container again just to make sure it wasn't a chemical. Once I rinsed it though, my curls were there ... but they were much looser and more defined. Comb out was a breeze ... a breeze I tell ya. Love this stuff!
  • Lacio Lacio: This is another item I was sleeping on. This made my hair feel luxurious. Love it!
On The Fence:
  • Silicon Mix Shampoo: I'm not really sure I'm feeling this one. I've had better. I'll have to use it a few more times.
  • Silicon Mix Leave-In: It's a little heavy for my hair, but I'll give it another try.

Miss: VS steam rollers. Everytime I use these my hair comes out so limp. barely any curls. It makes so frustrated because I really want to work for me. I've seen people on here that use them and there curls come out beautiful. But for me, I dont know. I'm gonna keep trying or maybe I'll just give them away.:ohwell:

ETA: I used them again tonight and I got much better curls. But this tiem I used it on my hair with NO product. I am happy they work for me but I feel torn because I can't moisturize b4fore I use them or else they wont work. If I moisturize after I use them I will lose the curl. So I'm kinda torn. My hair is prone to dryness so not moisturizing just to keep a curl is probably something I shouldn't do. I wish i could wear my hair down without curls but it's too thin.

This stuff smells wonderful ! I used it in a roller set and it left my hair soft and shiny. Then I used it to flat iron and it did 100 times better than my Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide.
